I'll start by saying that a lot of people feel the way you do on the periphery of the events that are unfolding. There's a certain uneasiness to what's happening and a certain uneasiness to holding people accountable for their actions in the past by the standards to today.

Where it needs further consideration is this: People are being called out for the actions that were not acceptable 10 or 15 or 20 years ago - but no one ever did anything about it then. How they have conducted themselves and accorded change in the time since those transgressions is important.

In other words - if you're still a racist bumhole 15 years later because no one ever stopped you from being one, it's no longer an excuse.

But if someone like Peters had realized he was being a racist bumhole, and apologized for it, and went about changing his ways and not doing it anymore things would be different. When other people being interviewed about him in private consultation said, 'He's not like that anymore', then the Flames wouldn't have fired him. In fact the Hurricanes probably wouldn't have walked away from him in the first place.

Instead here we are. And instead some are blaming social progress and proper comeuppance on a movement that targets bumholes for being bumholes.

The moral of the story has always been: Don't be an bumhole.

- Monkeypunk

Exactly. Idiots are idoits and should be fired with just cause, etc. But we are tired of being shamed because a few people are idiots. Canada is a very equal society at every level. You can live your life without fear and pursue your goals. When a crime is committed, we have laws. If someone is an idiot, they should humble themselves, change and ask for forgiveness. They should also not have there lives ruined...

So lemme get this straight:

You are upset because of hollow characters in the 9th Star Wars movie?

Really?

And furthermore, the last Terminator movie sucked because the writing was terrible - all of it. The worst character in the entire movie was a male cyborg, who were are supposed to believe was programmed to be a relentless killing machine, but developed morals? W the ever-loving F?

Seriously, buddy - you're just looking to hate something because it is female.

Says the misogynist. I see your game. Trying to hoist the blame on others to muddy the waters eh? Tell us again how you coach girls teams fascist!

Many would agree with him.

Not for what he did, but what he believed in and that is that Women can't be engineers.

I hear the next Bond is going to be a women. Remember the last Ghostbusters? They told people they were racists and misogynist for not seeing it. No one went because it sucked. The point is SJW's and the far Left tends to ruin everything...
- Hockey_Reverend

I think that's misappropriation as well. Paul Feige said that everyone who criticized his movie were misogynistic. I agree with you. It was a lousy movie. He had good talent to work with - particularly in McKinnon and McCarthy - but the movie was poorly written.

I'm not disagreeing that there are parts of Hollywood that are completely trying to glom onto the movement like a remora. I agree with you about that, but there's huge money to be made, so people who don't even understand the message per se are trying to exploit it without realizing that it's okay to have the message in the story, but the story can't use the message as a crutch.

It is changing for sure.

We aren't there yet.

There is a reason engineering is dominated by males.

- Santo_44

Honestly people have to stop discriminating people based on their sex.
Women and men are different biologically.
That brings stuff with it - like preferences for activities.
In general lines, most women tend to prefer other activities / career paths over men - basically the group of women tend to less like engineering.

If there were true barriers for women in Canada to pick specific jobs, then you would not have women docters or women lawyers etc.

The wider reason for it, as espoused in his suicide note, was that he believed that feminists were ruining the world for men.
- TheMussel

And too many people think that way....

I will get this out of the way, there are some extremest feminist with the right idea but take it way too far.

I'm all for encouraging women to go in fields historically dominated by males. More diversity usually ends up in better results.

But I'd dare say there is absolutely nothing preventing them from doing these days.

Just look at doctors. In a around 5 to 10 years, it will have become a largely women dominated field and it used to be the complete opposite 30 years ago.

Just like there are very few guys going in nursing... maybe the interest just isn't there yet. Because the opportunities surely are.

You could probably find something significant about every single cup winner that is an anomaly.
- Santo_44

Not like that. Thats pretty significant in a cap world.
I believe it was 2 years after the cap began as well.

Not to get all pedantic here, but he believed that women shouldn't be engineers, because he was denied entry into the program.

Why aren't there more guys becoming nurses? Or teachers?

I'm not sure there's a definitive answer to this.

The movie was pretty much a female remake of the og. They should have simply continued the storyline.
Anywho.
The trailer for the new Ghostbusters is out. That looks like they continued the storyline and added stranger things.
Still stoked to see ecto 1 out and about, driving through a field.

So? Whats your point? That more men are engineers even though more women are educated in the field really? So? Maybe they changed their minds? Maybe they started families and decided not to pursue the career? This is proof of nothing.

There are more female nurses and teachers. What does that prove? That men and women have different strength and personality traits that suite certain careers? So?

I don't do it for the accolades. I do it for the inflated sense of self-satisfaction.
