I would love Pageau, but it appears the ask for him is a bit much. Was it Tojo who said that they're looking for a first? Not worth a first IMO even if they worked out a reasonable extension. If the big names aren't available I'd be looking at players like Namestnikov.

Jake-Sid-Rust
Namestnikov-Geno-Bjugstad
Kahun-McCann-Horn
Simon-Blue-Tanev
ZAR

I think Bjugstad's ability to protect the puck and cycle would go a long way next to Geno. He's also solid in zone exits/entries.

- Rinosaur

Yeah, that's wat I kept reading, with his inflated goal total they can ask for a 1st and just might get it. And if they only got a 2nd, ours is gone. Just too high a price for my liking when Pageau is shooting double his career shooting percentage.

I'm with you. Hall is my #1 if that were possible, but I'm sure it's not. Toffoli my #2 and Zucker my #3 if he becomes available again.

After that I'm looking at keeping everyone aside from Galchenyuk and add Namestnikov or even Ennis. Not sure what the situation is on DuClair, but I've coveted him for a while.

I vote for a solid puck moving left D and trying out these 2 with sid. You don’t need to be elite to play with Sid. A compatible style of wingers and a defenceman who has controlled dzone exits will prob be more effective than throwing your whole barn at someone like Hall.
- 10inchTerror

I agree with this, especially if the winger is just a rental.

At this point, Marino has to be almost untouchable right? He's already playing at top 4 level, has a year left on his ELC, is an in-house replacement for Schultz, and is exempt from the expansion draft.

I would say so, and I rarely say that about any player haha.

I always felt Toffoli and Pearson were kind of similar.

Just checked in on Pearson in Van...doing pretty good.

I'd love Kreider...dont see it happening.

- MattStrat

Toffoli is faster and a better goal-scorer / producer, both of which would be a better fit with Crosby on the top line. Pearson could have been Malkin's winger, but it just didn't work out. But I just don't see Pearson as a top-line talent.

Zucker still available? Their center depth is pretty thin. Bjugstad, 1st, prospect?
- drummer829

Bjug is from Minnesota and has another year left at a decent rate. Koivu is old, now injured, and is on the last year of his contract. I could see that being a good fit.

I wouldn't want Woods. We don't need the 2.75M cap hit for 2 more years for a guy who is on the block seemingly because he's dogging it and only as 7 points.
- Tojo.

Sheary only has 9 points and falls down all the time. Just sayin'.

This was on Pensburgh from Mile High Hockey:

From what I’ve heard, there is a very strong possibility that the Avs want the final deal to be Martin Kaut, Drew Helleson, Colorado's 2020 first round pick and a 2021 pick that is conditional on Hall re-signing with the Avalanche in the summer. While the Devils insist on it being Timmins and Kaut.

We don't have a prospect comparable to Kaut. Addison probably tops Timmins at this point with Timmins health problems though Timmins is closer to the NHL.

It's hard to see the Pens beating this. They have 4 piece that are comparable in Addison, Pouliot, POJ, an their 1st and it would take 3 of them.

I think Colorado gets it done unless they back off because they don't want to pay high for a rental when their window is just opening. Hall probably makes them the favorite though, especially in the West.

The teams that might want Galchenyuk are still in the race and are desperate enough at forward to take a flyer on him. He won't go to a team like LA or NJ except as a cap dump to finish the trade.
- Tojo.

I think there are more options than just a cap dump. Play him top line / top PP minutes until the trade deadline and sell him on again or, if he is a good fit and wants to re-sign, he'll only be 26 next year so that's still pretty young for someone who has shown top line / top 6 production.

Yea if LA would take Galch for Toffoli that would be nice haha

I think they might if we throw in a 3rd or 4th.

I wouldn't necessarily love Sheary, but he's been a consistent 30 point guy and his contract is expiring. My issue with Wood is the cap hit past this year for a guy that they're basically calling out as lazy.

I have a weird feeling they try this out when healthy. I think they are clearly over the Galchenyuk experiment and would likely move on from him. I think they originally intended to use Bjugstad on the wing, but he just settle in at center last season. Now with McCann doing his thing at center, they could move Bjugstad to wing to test him out there.

- burgh4life87

I think Crosby would be much better served with a fast winger who can snipe (and someone who isn't injured all the time so he has a chance to develop chemistry and will be there when the games really matter). A big "no" to Bjug from my perspective.

I don't think 30 points is anything special, especially as a winger for a generational center near the end of the window. We have so many guys on this team who are as productive as Sheary but better overall hockey players. I wouldn't take Sheary and is $3M cap hit if they gave him to us for nothing. Seriously.

Honestly, I hope Sheary plays in Europe after this season so Pens fans will forget about him.

Pens aren't getting Hall. Toffoli is IMO the most realistic and attainable of the rumored rentals. I love Kreider, but I also think it's unlikely.

I'm also giving up on my hopes of an LD upgrade. They seem to have extreme confidence in everyone so I'm not even going there in my head.

Would you do Bjugstad and a 1st for Pageau, Namestnikov and a conditional 2nd/3rd rd pick?

This may seem convoluted, but I could see Galchenyuk being a throw-in a deal for cap purposes and then that team flipping for a pick. I would think that more plausible if a trade is done well before the deadline and he's then flipped by said team.
- Rinosaur

Why are people thinking Galchenyuk has no value? He's a 25 year old who career numbers average 20g and nearly 50pts over 82 games and is on an expiring contract. Yes he has had a bad start to the season and doesn't seem like a fit in Pittsburgh but I'm sure some team would take a chance on him.

2 goals in 21 games? Not going anything to demand a decent return.

Because he only has 2 goals in 21 games. But he's playing 12 minutes per game on the 4th line and has 10 points total which extrapolates to nearly 40 points over a full season despite his low usage with lesser linemates on a new team and coming off an injury.

He does have a $4.9M cap hit which makes it difficult to trade him to a contender, most of which are at or near the cap.

I will say that I don't think he has any value to the Pens, so just getting rid of his cap is valuable in and of itself, regardless of return.

Everyone has always said that about Crosby, but in the end he's always better with lunch bucket type grinding out in the corners smart players who know where to go when we get zone time and in the cycle (Dupuis, Kunitz, Jake, Horn, etc)

The thought that Crosby is just going to be sending these fast guy types down the wings with tape to tape passes and they will snipe goals hasn't held water or played out that way throughout Sid's career

I saw him more as a 3rd line guy.

But fair enough. I know we value some players differently and Sheary isn't one I feel strongly enough to defend at this time.

Bjugstad has a good shot. I think they will also value board work and defensive ability with Sid since he matches up with scoring lines often. Speed too, but it's hard to find that all in one guy and Bjugstad skates decent. May not work, but worth a look though again, I know you're not a fan of him.

You're probably right. JJ hasn't even been bad. My hope is that Buffalo has extra defensemen and has an interest in Galchenyuk, so maybe they get a band-aid for Dumoulin similar to how they ended up with Gudbranson, only this time they get someone like Scandella or even Miller.

GMJR has picked up pricey 7th defenseman like Gudbranson and Hainsey a couple times just in case.
