I believe the cap only went up by 2 - 3millie the past couple of years.
I could be wrong....and it could easily be searched.
But Im lazy. - Fakepartofme
Here you go $5 - $6 million not unrealistic for a one year increase. If league signs a deal for a reasonable number, it should be higher. For comparison the deal signed by the NBA in 2016 was for 24 Billion for 9 years. Not a huge leap of faith to consider the NHL gets half of that number 5 years later. Which would equate to about $4.167 million cap hike based on a 32 team league. That hike would be TV money only. Just sayin. |

According to some really back of the envelope math I'm doing, the current contract pays the NHL $200 million per year. Divide that by 2 and then divide that by 32, and you get a contribution of about $3 million per team per year.
From what I'm reading, they hope to double that in the next contract. So a $3 million increase?
It will be very interesting to see if they split it up and sell off rights for streaming, etc. My damn kids watch everything on their phones now. |

The issue with the TV deal is ratings are down year over year. They peaked in 2013. They get around 300,000 for national game sin the US, whites terrible. Hard to se an increase from the broadcasters. |

I agree, it will be interesting - I think that $3 million is conservative, but if you start to include some other revenues gambling money, streaming as you point out and tapping into the Euro market in some manner it could add up. The other interesting aspect will be if there is any new items on the agenda for the new CBA. I am curious whether there is another "forgive a contract" in the new deal.

He is jobless.
He is not working in the NHL.
He was fired.
Cool, he is getting paid. You are smart enough to know where I was getting at. I hope at least.
Next you are going to say Loui Erikson is a good hockey player because he is getting paid 6 million a year. |

NHL loves it, NHLPA loves it.
I'd be willing to bet a pitcher and plate of nachos there is some form of it in the next CBA. |

From what I've read that's pretty realistic. Roughly 3 milly per year in growth plus a tv revenue bump of 3-5 in it's first year.
If agents thought that the cap could be something close to 100 milly in the next 3-5 years then you'd bet these kids would be signing nothing but 2 or 3 year deals. |

It's going to be really interesting, because they'll be starting the new TV contract at the same time as a potential lockout.
In theory, it's a great incentive for both the NHL and NHLPA to work together to come up with a compromise to keep playing.
But as the scorpion said to the turtle as they were crossing the Nile... |

The deal signed 10 years ago .....equates to about a doubling of the revenue.
