I think it’s exactly what I said in an earlier post after thinking about it. He may not want to sign with whatever team is offering Shero the most which may immediately nullify the deal in the teams mind. The more I think about it the more it makes sense. Hall isn’t going to want to just instantly sign with a team because they’re offering more. For all we know he may have no interest in signing with any of the teams interested in him.

agree and if a team offers a boatload and then Hall says no I'm not signing there then the deal is off. Basically put the decision in Halls court.
Let Teams bid on him and give the best piece's and keep the next contract negotiation out of it until the aquiring team gets him. They will have time with him and if he has success and likes it he may sign where he thought at first he wouldn't.

Intersting really, Your dammed if you do and dammed if you don't

Exactly. From the Devils view it makes more sense to keep the other teams in the dark let them figure it out on their own post trade.

So essentially it’s like having Ladd and Komarov save for Komarov still playing sometimes unfortunately 😂

Hockey has some seriously bad contracts.

Sure, in that scenario it might. But I don't think Hall's agent is going to be giving hints to teams that he's willing to sign there. That probably would also hurt Hall's contract negotiating power as well. They're going to want to create a bidding war from teams that have no idea whether or not he wants to play there.

Scott Boras played that one to a T with the Gerrit Cole sweepstakes. He wanted to be a Yankee all along, but they used the two hometown teams and the use of the Famous Scott Boras Mystery Team™ late in the process to leverage the Yankees into a massive deal, when that was probably his most likely landing place all along.

At the end of the day, it's looking like the smart money is on Hall being a rental and nothing more. There will be a light version of the Tavares meetings and stuff right before July 1st and then someone will sign him to a 7 year deal, my guess is in the range of $10.5M AAV

Agree on bold.
If someone trades for him they can give him a 8 year deal if I'm not mistaken. Thats an advantage.

On the Stone deal, I believe the only way the VGK would consider Brannstrom in the deal was if they could speak with his team and see if a contract was in fact reality.

Makes sense and it may come to that at some point for Shero but I think it would have to present itself with an up in the offer for the Devils. He won’t give them the option from the get go and have Hall potentially blow any deal by not wanting to sign.

Luckily, the players they’ll probably have left after this season won’t cost them anywhere near the cap ceiling....if Blake has any brains. I can’t imagine that he wouldn’t try to move all of them for picks and prospects. I know I would. They can be sh*t without those guys. Speaking of which....Toffoli would be a nice addition for us.

Yes....said it before, and I’ll say it again: the 1st pick and Wilde, or Bellows and a 2 is as far as I go there, and that’s probably way too much, but I’m sure there’s a market, so you have to give something. If they really want a winger just to have one, I’ll throw them a Bridgeport backup. I’m not doing more than that unless I have his signature on a contract when he walks into the room. Certainly no players from the starting active roster.

Yeah I believe if you're on the roster as of the trade deadline than you're eligible for the 8th year.

Given the fact that Darren Ferris (Marner's agent) is Hall's representation I'm sure there will be quite a bit of negotiating over the summer. Willing to bet that it drags out for awhile instead of pretty much being wrapped up with a bow on it at 1pm on July 1st like pajama boy's deal.

I still think he ends up in Arizona.

The only team he was eligible to sign for 8 years with was us. He took less money and less term to sign with the Leafs

You never know. They're basically the Western Conference version of the Islanders, a lot of opinions about them are changing the same way they are about us.

Not saying I think he'll necessarily have the same interest, but I bet CBJ go after him hard as a Panarin replacement. They have all the cap room in the world.

He took less but got more b/c of the "15% Bonus Tax" nonsense in Canada. I am not sure why that doesn't get more press. It's a tremendous advantage for all Canadian teams. If you look at Marner's contract situation he waited till they structured it as Mostly bonus every year too.

JT made more take home money on the signing bonus than he would have in his 8 year contract with the Isles... and he still gets the 1 mill a year salary for 7 years.

I’d be shocked if he signed there due to the last couple of teams he has played with. He’s most likely looking for consistency and I don’t see the stability being there yet in players minds.

Yeah I remember the whole thing, I don't need to go down the Tavares road for the 9320th time.

The original point was that you need to be on a team's roster as of the trade deadline to be eligible for the 8th year of a contract.

(frank) Tavares I literally don’t miss the guy at all. If we had the guy we would be a cup favorite right now most likely but I would honestly rather not have the guy knowing what I know now. Couldn’t be more indifferent to him save for laughing at the Leafs when they lose. With that said Hall will be traded by Wednesday.
