Jarry in net. Rust, Schultz, and JJ all return.
- Tojo.

And we're happy with three of those.

How do you figure? Or were you being sarcastic?

Raanta is 11th in the league in sv%, if people think Bjugstad would be easy to move then Raanta will be no problem. They need to re-sign Hinostroza, Fischer and either plug some depth holes or allow guys like Merkley, Hayton, Schnarr to have opportunities

Idk why they gave Keller so much so early but still keep in mind on Capfriendly when you see that they’re right up against the cap for next season that includes Hossa at 5.275. After that they only have $44MM tied up for the 2022 season.

I think they’re actually in a pretty decent spot moving forward and have some really interesting prospects coming up

I meant this year and next. After that is fine. I still think taking on Kessel's contract for the type of player he is now with their cap situation was foolish for them.

Schultz was, afaik Rusty was not on IR (but maybe one of those "last day add and activate").

I think there were only 8 teams he would accept and it appears there was only one team that wanted him. No leverage = no return.

The way things are going in the league... Guys on expiring contracts have become assets. Before the Kessel and Guddy trades, our cap situation was dire the next couple of years. Now, it's quite good. Hopefully JR is done with the faceplants like Guddy and JJ.

- madmike71

I don't even fault him too much for Guds. It started when Hags was floundering and JR wanted more offense so he traded for Pearson, who did well at first. Then Pearson cooled off and we started having injuries at RD so JR got Guds who did well to help stabilize the defense. JR was able to unload Guds contract easy enough when Marino emerged. I know I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but I consider Guds no harm, no foul.

I think there were only a few morons here that wanted Kessel moved.
- Rinosaur

I didn’t really want him moved. Malkin did though, Sully did. JR’s hand was forced and Kessel had all the control. I don’t think Kessel was disliked in the room, but I have some really great friends to I’m not calling to go fishing with. JR did the best he could with what he had to work with.

Got it. I think the contract you would probably be complaining about this season would be Soderberg which is one Tanner refused to dive into further all summer. He kept saying that he was terrible aside from one season where he had a high sh%.

Facts: yes, he shot high last year and had 23 goals and 49 points

But prior to that he’s had paces of 39, 14, 51, 44, 54 and then his rookie season was just 27. But the reality is he had one awful season at 14 points (he also has much lower TOI) and his rebound should’ve been anticipated. He’s on pace for 42 this season - more PPP but less at ES

I never saw any issues with it because I believed in Schmaltz as a 1C, I really like Dvorak and was surprised Toch didn’t play him more last season which was just really really dumb - so really I didn’t see any holes in the roster, I didn’t see a need for additional cap space

JJ might be the better defender out of that pair.

I know, just as I say that he almost gives up a goal fumbling the puck on a faceoff win.

But Schultz is a pretty terrible defender.

And I am making a distinction between "defender" and "defenseman."

For the 4 seasons we had phil...we got the best out of him than any other team. It was time to move on. The team looks a lot better as a unit without him...how much of that is or is not on Phil...who cares...move on RW. Btw Murray still sucks.

Jarry solid again. Rust is flying. Marino looks like a 10-year vet even playing is off-side. Machino appears to be activated.

Marino is supposed to be on his regular side, but Letang can't stay on his off-side though I can't blame him too much. Love Marino, but not a fan of playing the star defenseman on his off-side.

Oh, haha. Yeah, Letang has been on the right side most of the night it seems.
