I bet we could get Toffoli for cheap since he is in the doghouse in LA. Maybe Galch straight up.

Definitely would do that. Friedman reports Ghostchenyuk on the block.

But how realistic is it that LAK wants (to trade for) another "problematic Russian"?

Doubt any bottom feeders are looking to take him on other than as a cap dump. He would likely need to go to a middling western conference team with injuries at the forward position.

You’re essentially saying his defensive game is ass and he’s not a playmaker, but the pens don’t have the assets to get him? He is an RFA, but he can easily take a 2 year deal and test free agency OR demand a ton of money because he’s had the one 30 goal season. You’d have to think GMs are going to be a little weary of giving away a high end prospect or a top 15 pick for him. He’s also having a pretty underwhelming year compared to last year. I know the entire red wings team is doing bad, but he’s an NHL worst -33. I don’t think it’ll take more than a late 1st round pick to get him

Let’s put it this way. The only penguin with more 5v5 goals than AA since the start of the 17/18 season is Guentzel.

Yeah I just read about Galchenyuk. I think reports had Buffalo scouting Galchenyuk in the past. They are still saying Pen's are tied to Toronto as a trade partner (they are looking at our backup goalies). One Toronto site says they are looking at Jarry and Desmith. Idk if I would trade Jarry (unless it is for a crazy high return). I would look at trading Desmith for Spezza or Aberg (I love how fast this guy skates) though.

Friedman mentioned Buffalo, and they've been scouting the Pens a lot.

I feel like this rumor is more the Toronto media sees a fit for them rather than this is something GMJR is interested in. I'd rather keep the goalie depth then add a fringe forward who is likely a healthy scratch if we're ever healthy.

I’m not a fan of trading DeSmith if they eventually plan on trading Murray. If Jarry stays consistent, I’d like Jarry/Desmith being our tandem for the 2021 season after the expansion.

I think Aberg would actually fit in here with our speed. He looked good last night playing with Matthews and Nylander. He was good on the forecheck and set up a few chances. I think he is who Pittsburgh is looking at. I figured if we trade Galchenyuk for a defenseman (to Buffalo) we could trade someone like DeSmith for Galchenyuk's replacement.

He actually had a pretty good game. Didn't score of course......no surprise there. I think he had the shift of the game however. Detroit was pouring it on for several minutes. Simon came out and had a dominant shift and righted the ship. I'm not Doms biggest fan and can't believe I'm saying the words "dominant shift".

I have been leaning towards this as well, but I kinda want to see Emil Larmi (WBS backup) get more starts in WBS so he can develop and potentially be another goalie prospect who may make an impact for us down the line. You can see he starts slow and needs some time to shake off the rust when he plays. He does show flashes where he can make an incredible save much like Fleury, but he also lets in some soft goals as well. I think losing a goalie may not be as big of a loss pending on how Larmi develops.

I doubt DeSmith gets him. I don't think he gets anything more valuable than having him around in case they decide to trade another goalie.

Agreed to DeSmith's value. Jarry has higher value, but I dont think JR is thinking of trading him at this point. Who knows though. As I stated earlier maybe someone offers someone or a package that JR cant say no to. I know for myself if Toronto called and discussed a trade an Kapanen or Nylander weren't off the table as potential returns (even if we had to add pieces to land Nylander) I wouldn't neccessary hang up. With that said if it comes to trading Jarry and the return is a pick or a prospect. I cant see JR listening unless he was trying to piece together a larger trade. I think there will be a trade this month since JR loves to do his trades early/this month. I have a gut feeling it will be a buffalo trade with Galchenyuk.

Isn't TOR in a Cap predicament now? For some reason I thought they were going to need to shed salary with the big contracts they have. So send Desmith+Galch for Kasper they free up $3+mil next year? IDK.

Everyone wants to point to Edmonton as the worst managed team in the league but Tor really gives them a run for their money.

Good riddens.

TIOPS mentioned talks of a possible Galchenyuk/Vesey swap. If that actually happened I’d be ecstatic.

Same here. I tried to figure out a trade for Nylander and Kapanen but couldn't come up with anything. They can't really afford to get rid of any defensemen without taking one back, so it doesn't seem like a fit there, either, unless we're talking about something like JJ + DeSmith for Muzzin.

Was that his first game this season? Capfriendly shows only 1 NHL game and 22 AHL games. He's 26 now so that's pretty old to not be a full-time NHLer.

Both TOR at PIT are right at the cap (Pens have about $1.5M of wiggle room) so any trade would have to be almost equal. DeSmith + Galch for Nylander would work but I doubt TOR wants to do that and then we would be screwed cap-wise next year.

Well, you have to give to get and they are our best trade chips. We likely have 2-3 years left of "the window" (including this season) so if we want to acquire a "difference-maker," I think we'll need to trade a goalie. The rest of our tradeable/expendable players (Galch, Horny, Bjug, ZAR, JJ, etc.) don't have much value (or neutral/negative value).

Do you think we need a winger and/or defenseman to compete with Boston and Washington this year? I think we need both. Maybe JR can work some magic and acquire top 6 and top 4 without trading a goalie, but that probably means draft picks and prospects.
