Well, I know the MAF lovers are out in full force dancing on MM's grave. As as a fan who supported Murray, he has been awful at times this year and last for that matter but just remember because Murray stinks/sucks right now does not change two things:
1. Pens were right to keep Murray over MAF.
2. MAF still sucked badly for the most part of six consecutive playoff years and the Pens only won when he did not play much of the 2016 playoffs. - stevens87
I agree 100% the correct move was to keep Murray. The reality is, either choice would have worked. This situation is very similar. You have two very good goalies and Jarry is going to be a starter for some team. You really can't go wrong. |

Interesting counter-point, I'll have to think about that. - Hockey66
66 you said the same thing that RW has been clamoring on about for years now: you don’t need to overpay for goaltending when you can allocate those funds elsewhere. When other teams are setting the curve of paying goalies prime money in their late 20s and early 30s that’s the exact definition of trying to stay ahead of the curve. Don’t worry, it wasn’t complicated
Going back to my original point: when aiming for another cup it doesn’t make sense to sacrifice any depth positions especially a point of weakness |

Glad to see Tocchet is doing well in Arizona. They have a solid team and seem to be well-coached. - Hockey66
It’s been a long time coming. For a while I wasn’t so sure he’d figure it out. When he first got here the team struggled and his roster decisions were brutal. That carried through to last season and the start of this season. He’s finally playing his players appropriately and it’s paying off
A great example is at the start of the season his top line would play 20+ minutes and then Schmaltz would play like 14 and all the other forwards would play 13 or less. That’s hard to get a rhythm going. He’s since adjusted his lines and given Schmaltz guys to play with, the results speak for themselves |

Murray + Galch for Vatanen
ZAR + 3rd for Toffoli
Guentzel - Crosby - Toffoli
Kahun - Malkin - Rust
McCann - Bjug - Hornqvist
Tanev - Blueger - Simon
Dumo - Letang
Vatanen - Marino
Petts - Schultz
Jarry
DeSmith - Hockey66
I don’t think management wants to trade MM but if they did I would want to know what the plan was to replenish our depth at the position. Let’s say Jarry goes down for a month right after this trade, then we need a goalie and everyone knows it. That’s when you have to pay a premium
Someone said DeSmith is a career backup. I think it’s too early to say that. He’s got great numbers in the AHL and you never know when the next Hutton will come around |

Capfriendly.com has a page that addresses the protection rules. It is still too early to know what direction any team will go.
It is fairly safe to assume there will not be three goaltenders better than Murray/Jarry. So what will the Pens do? Again too early to make a determination. The best option is too just let things play out this year. Let's assume Petterson continues his development and the Pens get a stud LD, that would open Petterson to the draft. Now if you trade one of Murray/Jarry you lose Petterson.
The only certainty is they are going to lose one goalie, how will depend on how both Petterson and Jarry continue their development. Not to mention how future trades play out. - Thunderbolt
Idk if this continues I feel JR trades one of the goalies by the deadline next year.

He's been playing the left side though. That makes him a guy I'd like to target. - Tojo.
Been saying for a few weeks I’d be happy to send them Petts and a pick with the plan of signing Vats to an extension to play with Marino on the 2nd pair. I think it makes a ton of sense |

This may be an unpopular opinion, but what about a top 4 of Vat-Letang and Dumo-Marino. Marino has some good offensive instincts, but I feel like putting him with a reliable dman like Dumo could possibly help his game more. I really like Pettersson though so I’d prefer to keep him on the 3rd line and obtaining Vatanen through a pick and prospect. |

You don't see major salary cap issues happening with that trade? |

Yea but no matter what we think doesn't matter. I always got the sense that Ruth/Sully likes the "balance" of righty and Lefty. I'm not personally against it I just don't see us acquiring Vat unless Schultz goes which I would be on board with. |

Vats-Marino was what I posted. I think it could solidify our D for the next 4 years. I would look to move Schultz for a lesser, younger, cheaper RD and futures |

I don’t see any reason not to explore that option other than the fact that Sid and Letang often match up against opposing scoring lines and Dumo has a solid history of neutering guys like Brovie |

Reporter”you let in 4 goals tonight on 20 shots, you can’t be happy with that”
MM. “I played a great game, the Defense might have limited them to 20 shots but the were good ones. I really don’t make mistakes.”
wienerheadedness then. - Grinder47

All this trade talk really just makes me excited for the first time the pens get pushed around so bad physically that JR trades for grit and toughness the next day. - Grinder47
Actually I think Andreas Martinsen would get called up if that were the case. |

I'm a MAF lover and I thought it was absolutely, no question the right move.
As for Murray, I'm not dancing on his grave, but I think there is a very good possibility that he ends up being an average goalie the rest of his career (around ~.910) and he's about to get paid. We have other holes on the team and Murray still has trade value. Jarry looks like the better goalie going forward. |

Decent vet goalies can always be had for a song in the unlikely scenario that Jarry goes down for a month. |

Yes, Calgary, Edmonton and others just waited for years to finally settle, Leafs still haven't found a backup.
What "decent vet goalie" can be currently acquired/signed "for a song"?
Do you remember the time we played Zatkoff as our 1st goalie, in a playoff game? |

In the highly unlikely scenario that Jarry goes down for a month, DeSmith is the starter so we're talking about a backup who would play 3-4 games during that span. Neuvirth is a FA and won't cost anything other than the vet min salary. Problem solved. |

I'd put Murray's chances of being traded this season at 0.0% no matter how bad some of you muppets want him moved. |

And isn't GMJR credited to say "you can't have enough goalies"?! But ok, maybe expansion draft will force hands another time.
In any case: MM starts today vs. DET, and i hope he will show a good effort. |

Neuvirth is battling injuries, his career may be over. If it was easy to find another goalie lying around, Hutchinson wouldn't be Toronto's back up. |
