Yinz are gonna miss Kessel when he’s in the playoffs and the pens are at the draft lottery.

I can just imagine the reaction from fans around the league, particularly Flyers fans, if the Pens won the 2020 draft lottery . We will never hear the end of "rigged", "Bettman is a Penguins fan", "Bettman loves Crosby", "Bettman is bailing out the Penguins again", ...

Honestly I would contemplate going on a murderous rampage if that happened with the way Detroit keeps getting (frank)ed in the lottery.

I think they are saying nice things about JJ when asked, because what else are they going to do? I think Sully would sit JJ in a heartbeat (as he did in game 1 of the playoffs last year) if he had a choice. With Dumo out long term with an injury (and seemingly injured a lot lately), Petts having a down year, JJ (enough said), and Riikola still a bit of a question mark, I think LD should absolutely be a priority. If they play their cards right, they might be able to get a quality LD and a RW.

He's worn an A this season on a few occasions. He is being spoken about in good terms unprompted. The staff and management love him. I don't like him and want him traded, but it isn't happening.

Hey, it’s not the league’s fault they picked (frank)ing Seider that soon.

I know we keep talking about getting another LD, but the team is singing JJ's praises and has made it very clear they want Pettersson to remain in his spot. I just don't see who Sully would sit if one were acquired. I think if Jim does anything, it is move salary to get a true top 6 scoring winger to help down the stretch.
- burgh4life87

I agree they're likely happier than their D than the fans. I hope they get another guy just for depth at least, but they probably think they're fine defensively.

GMJR is a "hockey guy" which means he's bad at hockeying today's players.

As he is non-US/CAN/RUS: brave pick by DRW, with 12 he already played U16 here, and last year won German championship and "rookie of the year" in his first year of play. Seeing him having 12 points in now 24 games is astonishing.

I'm glad Phil's contract is off the books

He'd be untradeable in his current state, even without the NTC

We get to walk away from Gally if we want to and that frees up essentially 6.8 Million and we also netted POJ as a bonus

He's definitely going to be a good player, but he was also projected to go somewhere around 15th I believe.

I wanted him moved and it turned out to be the right move. He had become a cancer and he is starting to take a nosedive. His contract is / will be an albatross. 2 more years at $6.8M for a 33-year-old PP specialist? No thanks.

The Pens identity and team defense is great without him. I'll trade a few PP points for that any day of the week.

I meant what I said earlier - it seemed like he was causing issues and tension. We don’t hear about any tension, Malkin doesn’t look frustrated, we’re playing as a team. Tojo was great about pointing out this summer that for Malkin it’s addition by subtraction when it comes to Phil. Has our PP struggled? Sure, at times it’s downright embarrassing how we pursue pucks / attack their blue line.. but at 5v5 we’re much better defensively and it’s been leading to offense

I can't believe he isn't killing it with *checks notes* Clayton Keller.

He was 35th in scoring at 5v5 last year. He was way more than just a power play. We got NOTHING in return for him. Not even enough space to do anything with.

On the other side of the coin, you could say that he was being propped up by linemates and favorable deployments.

Still expensive for a heavy minus player and 3 ES goals in his past 62 games says "nosedive" and PP specialist to me.

We got out of an expensive, long-term contract for a less expensive expiring contract. And POJ. Yes, please, thank you.

This was with virtually no leverage, too. Good job, JR.

ARI is pretty screwed cap-wise for the next two years. Terrible trade for them.

I think there were only 8 teams he would accept and it appears there was only one team that wanted him. No leverage = no return.

The way things are going in the league... Guys on expiring contracts have become assets. Before the Kessel and Guddy trades, our cap situation was dire the next couple of years. Now, it's quite good. Hopefully JR is done with the faceplants like Guddy and JJ.

I hope they do make the playoffs. They’re healthy, Kuemper leads the league in sv% while Antti is 11th, 9th ranked PP. overall they’re 2nd in the league in GA/game. I liked their offseason additions. Soderberg hasn’t played as much as I thought he would be he’s performed pretty well

How do you figure? Or were you being sarcastic?

Raanta is 11th in the league in sv%, if people think Bjugstad would be easy to move then Raanta will be no problem. They need to re-sign Hinostroza, Fischer and either plug some depth holes or allow guys like Merkley, Hayton, Schnarr to have opportunities

Idk why they gave Keller so much so early but still keep in mind on Capfriendly when you see that they’re right up against the cap for next season that includes Hossa at 5.275. After that they only have $44MM tied up for the 2022 season.

I think they’re actually in a pretty decent spot moving forward and have some really interesting prospects coming up

Much like Galchenyuk he just hasn’t really had the chemistry here. He had 8 ES points in the first 22 games and has none in his last 8. According to Dobber Sports he faces the third easiest QoC behind Garland and Keller
