If you cant make it work with out sending a dump then you need to up the ante significantly.
You cant just go because of salaries when a contract like that would cost you a decent pick on its on to move but somehow packaged in a deal for a star they become something of value ?
The deals where the team sends a conditional first and a meh prospect likely wont fly you will likely have to pony up a unprotected first or youre top prospect.
I just dont see Ray liking any gm so much that he lets them have Hall for a conditional first and that teams third best prospect, at least one significant piece has to be a given.
Dobson is way ahead of his age. Toews' speed and shot makes Leddy replaceable. Would keep Mayfield at his price, need to pay Barzal, Pulock, Toews and then pay Sorokin. Need to make cap space and have to give to get.
You keep bringing up Stone, that for one was at deadline, if get Hall now, more than half the season left, and Brannstrom is better than Wilde by a mile and again Wahlstrom is no guarantee. Plus every year is different. Get Hall now, get him acclimated and win the division and go for the Cup! - HolyDiver83
Dobson may be ahead of the development curve for his age, but he's not going to step in at age 18 and be any sort of replacement for Leddy. That's a disaster waiting to happen, on a few levels.
Moot point, however. Trotz loves Leddy and very clearly prefers to play veterans over young guys. Lou isn't taking away a defenseman that Trotz sees as an integral cog in the wheel.
Why did Leafs make those trades and add them then?...did they receive some sort of cap relief or add draft picks? Never could figure why they were on LTIR for them? - RussH1964
The contracts count against the cap. However, when you reach the cap ceiling and put the players on LTIR you can exceed the cap by the value of there cap hits. The Leafs essentially added close to $11mil in cap space by taking those players.
I wouldnt bite at that but at least its filled mostly with picks and true prospects.
I just dont like the protected first as I dont think either of those guys are blue chip enough or not quite Brannstroms quality. - Devilish4
So if Kylington is replaced by Valimaki, you make the deal? I was debating putting in Valimaki in place of Kylington - but I really don't want to. He is a bonafide A+ prospect likely 1st pairing defender.
How about:
Hall (signed after the trade aka Stone deal), & a 4th in 2020 for Valimaki, 2020 1st (protected) and Frolik

Carey Price for Taylor Hall.
One-for-One! - chelios_24
NEVER! NJ has no love Price (at least I don't) since his childish attack on Palmieri a few seasons ago. Plus Price's career is spiraling downward quickly
NJ gets
Werenski
Milano
2020 2nd round pick - Shakers
Interesting. From an outsiders view, are the Jackets ready to win NOW?? Hall should be dealt to a team looking to win now. I can see the Jackets more likely to deal away a player like Hall than deal FOR one.
You think CBJ are in a spot where hed help the overall plan??

From what we have seen in Cbus is that this team needs a high end talent to open up the ice for our existing players. So yes, I think Hall would fit nicely into the overall plan as this team is currently built.

I agree with everything you just said. if I were Habs management, I would try.
