How so???? Are you serious? You guys couldn't afford him, so bye bye Zuccerello/Hayes/likely Krieder. All this and you still had to buy out Shatts who has more points than any D on your roster this season, and has massive cap penalties going forward. Essentially his cap hit + Trouba's contract combine for 14M next season!!! That is insane. I agree it is nice to shelter your prospects like DeAngelo and Fox, but Shatts could have done that. With Smith and Staal still under contract for two more seasons, it just didn't make any financial sense. You spent 8M and Pionk looks just as good as Trouba did in Winnipeg. - bikeguy99
Ummm, Zucc and Hayes were already gone, so have nothing to do with this scenario. Maybe lose Kreider, maybe not. I like having him here, but he’s not exactly playing himself into a big ticket contract.
As for Shatty, well i can tell you that for whatever reason, he never played like this on Broadway. He had 119 games with us and put up 24 points more than he has so far with Tampa. So, we were supposed to let the market pass by for that? D’Angelo has one point less than Shattenkirk and is making less than a million. Kinda even s it’s out, no? And Trouba has 14 points while starting 58.3% of his shifts in the D zone. Shattenkirk: 43.4%. Trouba also playing 3 minutes more a night.
Also, yes next season blows for dead cap space, but it’s only the one year and the hit from Girardi drops by $2.5M, so that’s something.
Oh, and no Pionk is nothing like Trouba, so he could not look as good. Happy for Pionk, but let’s be serious. |

I think the roster has more talent throughout than you give them credit for.
But yes, they are a tire fire so far this season. - Aetherial
i think tire fire, in this case, is a relative term.
obviously they're better than Ottawa, but the sens are playing better than expected and seem to be heading in the right direction
the leafs are arguably the most disappointing team in the league, based on expectations (tampa is right there too) and definitely seem to be heading in the wrong direction.

please elaborate which error....i didn't see any
as for the roster....the leafs have more star power, no doubt, but beyond your top 4-5 guys, the leafs roster is a joke.....and it's going to be worse next year
as for your cap situation...... .....leafs are the biggest cap disaster in the league. next season you only have 10 guys under contract (only 1 dman) and 65mil committed. that means you have 16mil to fill more than half your roster.....a roster that has you sitting 3 pts out of a playoff spot, and all the teams you're chasing have 2-3 games in hand.
your team is a tire fire buddy . - sensarmy_11
You spend a lot of time thinking about the Leafs, huh? Sad for you. I could probably name five players on the Sens. Not just because they’re historically terrible this season, but because they’ve been irrelevant for....well, basically forever. No one outside of Ottawa ever thinks about your team
And you do realize the Leafs could trade Tavares, a guy they acquired for nothing, tomorrow, for a boat load of picks and prospects. Cap situation fixed, pipeline replenished. And still a tonne of high end talent on the team.
We’re 20 games into the season. The universe will correct itself very soon. Sens will finish dead last, Leafs and Bolts will make the playoffs comfortably
And cool emojis

you realize that "historically bad" team is just 5 points behind your leafs, with a game in hand.
as for Tavares, please elaborate on which team has both the room to take on a 30 year old player with an 11 million dollar cap hit, and the willingness to give up a boatload of assets. Leafs would either have to eat a significant portion of his cap hit and salary and/or not get much for him.
also, I realize you aren't that smart, but 20 games and 30 games isn't the same.....I know you're living in this delusional leaf homer universe, but reality is that your team is NOWHERE close to as good as some of you numpties thought it was. the leafs will be lucky to sneak in as a wild card team at this point, and even if they do, they're just another easy 1st round knock out for whoever they play. your GMs total mismanagement of contracts and the cap situation has completely (frank)ed this team moving forward......forget your window closing, it's probably never even going to open.
and since you like the emojis
that's how many laugh emojis your train wreck of a team deserves. |

If you don’t think there are teams who’d jump at the opportunity to acquire Tavares, a guy coming off a 47 goal season, you’re even dumber than I originally thought
Your Sens love picking up Toronto’s garbage. Just imagine how excited they’d be to trade for one of our stars! Though I imagine JT would retire before he ever dressed for that joke of a team
Anyways, I’ll let you go back to obsessing over Toronto again

Ummm... Ben Harpur is a bottom pairing/healthy scratch on the Marlies. So unsure why you mentioned him. - LeafGuy89
because once Barrie, Muzzin, and Ceci all leave for nothing, and you can't afford to sign anyone else because of your GMs massive cap mismanagement, he'll be in your top 4. |

Man, tell me about it. Must be so nice to cheer for a team where cap management isn’t an issue, because quality hockey players refuse to play there
Tell us again how great Connor Brown is. The guy who couldn’t crack our fourth line. HAHAHAHA

Listen, You guys can beat each other up all day...Really couldn't care less..But you cannot tell me that Brown wouldn't be playing along side some of Toronto's best talent simply because he has a heart beat! The guy brings it every shift, And as an observation, That is something sorely lacking from your team right now. So in short...You would love to have him back, And you know it! |

Also,
There isn't a GM out there that isn't looking at the situation in Ottawa and salivating at the opportunity to be the one to take over their cap space/ prospect/ picks. This all hinges on ownership changing of course. But Ottawa does have a very bright future if it is managed correctly. With that said history does not bode well for any positives though! |

To your point about Connor Brown - he’s small, not physical, and he has 3 goals in 30 games this season. And given the lack of talent on the Sens roster, I have to assume that’s in a top six role. I maintain, Leafs do not need or want him. As a sweetener for absorbing Zaitsev’s horrible contract, it was dirt cheap
Salivating....LOL. The only people salivating in Ottawa are the guys on expiring contracts, salivating at the opportunity to leave town
Your last sentence is completely accurate. Let’s be honest, Ottawa always finds a way to screw things up

3 goals and 17 points(way to cherry pick stats) 17 points would put him tied for 6th on the Leafs. My point(opinion) stands, The leafs could use more players just like him.
Also if you cannot see the potential for a great future in Ottawa based on the cap space, Prospects, And picks they have....Then carry on with your bashing of Canadian teams not residing in Toronto! Will it pan out for Ottawa? Big, BIG question mark with that one. But On paper the Leafs should be much better than they are playing, Would you not agree? So until the Leafs make it to the stanley cup finals. They have proved nothing. And the potential for all this Ottawa bashing has the potential to blow up in your face. |
