The Leafs will be fine.

Teams lose.

They will figure it out this season and if they don’t then there will changes.

But ffs give this team a chance.

Teams struggling so trade Nylander!

Updated numbers (sorry for the does of reality):

After 30 games, the Leafs have 30 points. Currently a 50% win rate, on track for 82 points.

To get to 98 points (that's what it took to get to the playoffs last year), they Leafs need 68 more points. That's a 65% win rate - the equivalent of a 107 point season.

The Leafs have never in their 101 year history had a 107 point season.

I’m an optimist so I think it’s doable.

They’ve been consistently injured and haven’t got 1 win on a b2b. At some point things will change. Even if they just go on a little run. Go 8-2 over the next 10, just get some sort of momentum.

It's not a bad signing, but I don't understand why Leafs fans feel like we owe this guy some sort of special treatment.

HE choose to sign in Toronto for less. That was his decision. And what's that's made, the guy doesn't deserve to be held in a high regard due to his tenure with the Ottawa Senators and Dallas Stars.

He was signed as a spare part - because that's the absolute ceiling of his ability at this point.

I don't give a flying frank if he wants more ice time or to play in the home opener because his cousin bought tickets.

He has a franking job to do. And right now, he isn't getting it done.

Which is a point I can say for about 3/4 of the roster right now.

- Atomic Wedgie

Recency bias.

Best p/60 on the team. 8 points in 9 games.

He is doing just fine for a depth player for the team.

That Spezza probably didn't want to take a penalty.

Oh, FFS, not this again.

Points available divided by points earned equals winning percentage.

If Team A goes 40-40-2, for 82 points...

And Team B goes 32-0-50 for 114 points...

Are you really going to tell me that Team A has a better win percentage?

Take your time to choose your answer wisely, because if you pick Team A, I will hunt you down and punch you in your chestnuts.

FFS, people, this was settled by Red Fisher the franking day that the NHL came out with the loser point!!!

Luckily no team wants to grab the 2nd or 3rd spot in the Atlantic right now.

Tampa is well on their way, just need to play their games in hand.

After that, it's anybody's game between Toronto, Montreal, Florida and Buffalo.

A 2 minute penalty is better than a shorthanded breakaway in a tied game. Some of that PP will be a wash.
- RickJames77

Sure, it would have been a wash for 12 seconds, but we just came off a 4 minute penalty to Muzzin..
I'm not defending what Spezza did.. Both he and Rielly screwed up on that play.

Hey Lucas, your not suggesting that Shanny yell at the players. You also mention the Leafs playing with fire and aggressiveness. Are you sure you understand the Dubas vision ? Shanny breaking sticks and turning over tables . All that would do is give Nylander and the play nice Leafs the excuse they need for losing. They yelled at me
and told me to be aggressive ! Someone give me a hug.

- johnnypie

Less accountability.
More excuses.

Hugs for everybody.

Give them some time it’s only year 4.

It's the one weird, wild way that the Leafs may make the playoffs.

But hey, we used to do it all the time in the Norris Division.

We made the playoffs in 1986 with a record of 25-48-7, 57 points. And we won in the first round!!!! Such a proud history of terrible...

It's all about expectations.

Montreal, Florida, Buffalo are right where people expected: Fighting for a playoffs spot.

Toronto was aiming to win the division/the cup/the Norris/The Vezina/The rocket Richard/ The Art Ross/ The Ted Lindsay/ the Hart/the Conn Smythe AND Mrs. Universe.

So yeah.... people are reacting differently to the similar situations.

You really think that's true? Shouldn't people in NHL circles have picked them to win something.

My expectations were lower.

I just wanted to have lunch with a former Ms. New Jersey - someone who loved hockey.

It could be. I would not count out teams near the Leafs in the standings so why them

We just need to go on a run, now would be a good time to start..

I think the Leafs go 6-1-1 in their next 8 games and have a 19-14-5 record before Christmas.

Florida 94
Buffalo 91
Montreal 87
Toronto 82.

All these stupid trade proposals.

They just got a 94 point winger in the lineup after being out for 10+ games.

Your silly little Matthews swaps aren’t doing poop. We are going to live or die with this team so enjoy the ride. Or get off it.

Well yeah...they have star power.
But so do Tampa and Florida.

The others....meh. But still it's not that odd that people think Toronto is in the worst situation, given the standings.
