He's 5"11, a bit undersized but tough. Ellis, and 5th, for Johnsson, SDA, Ceci(% retained), 2nd or 3rd in 2021?

I dunno.

- Archaic

I dunno either, but a damn site more on target than the Matthews/Nylander ideas from earlier....(I would add though that adding Ceci in every trade is a little old....not many teams will entertain him, unless Leafs doing a favor back. Nobody WANTS Ceci...)

Ellis is great

I dunno if we could pluck him - they are a big fan and his contract is good too

- Lucas.Neilson

They are out of the playoffs, and need more offense. He is the one d that is expendable on their team when you look at it.

Josi - Not going anywhere
Fabbro - young, and not going anywhere
Ekholm - not likely to be traded
Weber - low end D
Hamhuis - old
Irwin - bottom pairing D

I agree with your take on spezza

I think his game is done.

- Lucas.Neilson

In the prediction thread I listed Spezza as the biggest disappointment on the roster. Simply because he's one of the slowest in the league. He played awful, as expected, first few games - then suddenly he almost looked liked the ol' Spezza until last couple of games...

Its simply for cap reasons, not value reasons. He gives them more capspace for next year as well. It also fills a temporary gap by trading a RD away. The preds can fill ellis on RD better and have him lower in the pairing lineup.

Fabbro shoots right and could likely move up into Ellis's spot.

I've never loved a player so much, but hated their god damn contract.

He really is a gud pro, and I know I'm using a joking phrase there, but he really is. I just hope he doesn't have some long term effects due to his history of concussions. The guy works his ass of, does a lot away from the game, is a good leader, but just has a terrible contract. I don't blame him for signing it and it's kind of nice for once to have a player you like that just makes too damn much. It's better than the alternative of hating the player and the contract.

I suggest anyone looking to trade for Ryan Ellis watch the stars preds playoff series last year.

To suggest that Mathew's level of effort is anywhere near Marner's is crazy - watch the game. Yes Mathew's when he scores is a weapon but he does not play like others in his pay grade effort coming back and getting to lose pucks is not there. Trade him before the rest of the league wakes up and make sure Ceci and Marincin are in the package and if necessary throw in the Nylander family.

spezza should have been invited to camp on a pto.

he didn't make the starting roster out of camp. he shouldn't be on the team.

if dubas had the balls to do that and then not sign him, babcock wouldn't have looked like the complete bumhole for not playing him in ottawa.

The same idiotic “fans” that chased Murphy and Kessel out of town are trying to do the same with Matthews. smh

Different GMs. Different coaches. Different players. Same stupid fanbase.

A fanbase that would rather have a team of Colton Orrs instead of Bobby Orrs. A fanbase that would lionize Claude Lemieux, would criticize Mario Lemieux. A fanbase that said you couldn’t win with Murphy or Kessel watched as they skated around with the Cup immediately after ditching this cesspool.

Oh how I can’t wait for the Leafs to draft Byfield, just to read the same posters say the exact same poop. Over and over. Forget a Stanley Cup, this retarded fanbase doesn’t deserve any star players.

Most of you can promptly go (frank) yourselves.

People are (frank)ed.

They can’t handle losing. It’s the NHL, it’s a very good league that you can’t just get by with skill alone. They will realize that.

Mackinnon was the most talented 60 point player in the league for 4 years until he figured it out.

- Santo_44

MacKinnon and Marchand only "figured it out" after they started training with Crosby. Get Matthews to Scotia b'y.

What the hell is this? Spezza has been very good. He was offered more $ guaranteed elsewhere. The PTO was impossible and the ex coach was very unfair to him.

Spezza is not an issue at all

Updated numbers (sorry for the does of reality):

After 30 games, the Leafs have 30 points. Currently a 50% win rate, on track for 82 points.

To get to 98 points (that's what it took to get to the playoffs last year), they Leafs need 68 more points. That's a 65% win rate - the equivalent of a 107 point season.

The Leafs have never in their 101 year history had a 107 point season.
