Mackinnon's deal looks AMAZING we agree. But there has to be context to it. There's a reason for it. Salaries and cap goes up every year.

Actually you bring up a really good point. I was talking to my TSN friend yesterday and MacKinnon was brought up as someone who was underperforming and then suddenly seemed to put it all together.

Kadri was another player who seemed to struggle early on and then sort of figure it out.

That is why I don't like the Matthews trade ideas. There is just way too much out there to have it come back and bite you in the ass.

I don't think anyone is untouchable (McDavid being as close as you can get), but the price to move Matthews would have to be a huge overpayment and would legitimately have to make the Leafs a better team now, and in the future.

Year 4 of his contract is a different story. You will have the additional concern of the year 5 no-trade.

You can't make a statement like that out of context.

Trading him for Justin Faulk is a Chiarelli move, but if you can get a Jones +, and a bunch of cap space... that is not a Chiarelli move.

Anyway, it is way too soon to panic, bit not too soon to start figuring this out.
