Exactly especially with so many witnesses. Have a pair of balls.

It was interesting hearing Bieksa's take on all this stuff coming out. He said if he had seen Crawford kicking or hitting guys at the time he was coaching him he probably wouldn't have said anything, but that to do it now is unacceptable.

Tough to draw the line on where the statute of limitations for this stuff is.

They probably want to sue for money because they were bad with the money they earned?

Yeah, I agree with him to an extent that there's some witch hunting happening. That said, there are some guys getting rooted out that needed to be. It's an issue with a ton of gray area.

I think most rookies would struggle to say anything.
I'd expect a vet would be more likely to say something, in house.

But it also depends on the era. Peoples standards are changing so fast that what might not be considered okay now was accepted even 5-10 years ago. It's difficult to make those calls about past behavior having real consequences today when there's no defined rules and you're constantly facing down an internet mob that's out for immediate action.

In a sport that allows fighting even encouraged it at times things were very grey on the macho front of how to react. The bully method to coaching is now getting rooted as hockey culture shifts to player safety.

This might not be relevant to you but when I first came out to Vancouver I worked for the Aquarium. The employees used to get together with other Parks Board staff and have huge bonfires at English Bay and Third Beach. Not even the slightest issue.

That was around 17 years ago. Damn right standards are changing. Try and do that today.

Agreed, this is a huge problem with the world today. Actions should have consequences, sure, but you have to draw the line. If these coaches are still abusing players today, do something about it and use the past to enforce penalties. If they aren't doing it and have learn, why are you doing it? Why did you not do something sooner? Why are you such a buttercup?

The one thing for me is I'm not really fond of the "grow some balls" argument. I feel like the question gets asked and answered over and over.

People often feel incapable of taking action because those who are stepping out of line have some sort of power/influence over them/their careers. In a lot of cases(not all) you can't really blame people for not stepping up immediately.

On the other hand the one thing I do find disheartening in these stories is when players have been abused/berated and the leadership group on the team didn't help them. What's the point in having a letter on your jersey if you're not going to stand up for your teammates?

It's weird because the "shift" is not one directional. Liberal attitudes prevail in some quarters of society, yet conservatism reigns in others. It's hard to keep up.

People just keep rushing into further and further extremes to offset one another. Those with conservative viewpoints get louder and more vehement about their beliefs as they see liberal shifts in our society and vice versa.

Hell you even see it in this blog where guys go on and on about "(frank) feelings" or other senseless moral/political stances. They see things going one way and they pull too hard in the other direction to try to "correct" it.
