It is starting to be sort of apparent that hainsey and marleau were helping to guide this team.
They were probably the guys who served as a reality check to soften babcock's message.
These young guys have a lot of maturing to do. At least they will have a long summer to do some of it. - Tumbleweed
I hope that maturity involves an improved amount of give-a-poop.
They only seem to put in effort rarely, and even then for only part of a game. I think they are among the most talented teams top to bottom, but they are definitely the softest, and almost certainly the laziest.
There is no excuse for what has transpired this year. |

I think we are past ‘easily miss the playoffs’. Its now more like ‘very likely to miss the playoffs’. If this does happen who gets jettisoned?? Dubas stilll safe or does someone put at end to this aweful experiment we are watching? - Hockey_Reverend
I understand completely what you are saying... but enough of the firing stuff.
Make Dubas fix his own mess. Trade one or two of "his guys" (meaning guys he signed to overpriced contracts)... make him publicly acknowledge that building a roster completely off spreadsheets, stats and zero intangibles won't win anything.
why did everyone complain most about Babcock? that he was always right? that it was always his way, inflexible, that his evaluations of players were always correct.
what's Dubas doing right now? sticking with the guy he "needs" to be the back up... because of the overpriced contracts he handed out like Halloween candy.
demand that Dubas "clearly illustrate" what he has learned, what were his "mistakes"...

Losers still join fraternities? - Fakepartofme
Exactly.
Also, if you don't want to do any of that, just don't join the frat. No one's forcing you to (except maybe your parents who live hundreds or thousands of miles away). |

I think you are right or very close to it....ive thought about it myself, the contracts these guys got can cause serious jealousy and problems on a team...
but the biggest concern right now is matthews not producing or even playing like he can....thats a huge problem when you just got paid large...he got outplayed by eichel in the b2b and has just looked very blah all year.....i dont care how many goals he has or his on pace.... he is NOT playing like he gives a (frank) about winning... - CarlitoBrigante
Matthews is Kessel all over again, with a better shot, but not as fast, and not as good of a playmaker. He is the biggest problem on this team. People who don't see this are seeing what they want to see, instead of what really is.
Sure, he may go on to somewhere else and finally be the player his talent says he *should* be, but it won't be here.

Seems he just punching his 5 years...then, home to Arizona.
(That's what his play looks like, anyway...) - hawk35
That is EXACTLY what his play looks like.

Really? How about Matthews rip a shot? You know Auston ‘60 goal scorer’ Matthews? (I am using the Phil Kessel goal calculator...) - Hockey_Reverend
He would have ripped it, if Willie gave it back to him |

He needed to make trade to get rid of significant salary. Willy has produced to the point this season where he could probably get a reasonable return. It's time, and it's hard to see any other guy they could trade that would make a difference. - aminnes
Trade Hyman and his 2.5 million per year salary. I do think he has a partial NTC though. He literally is a dump and chase guy. If Dubas really is going all in on puck possession, skill, speed. Hyman is not your guy.

This is joke right?
We are a soft, lazy team. So let’s fix it by making the team softer and lazier?
The scary part is, Dubas may actually do it. They really should have either hire Hunter or stay with Lou, and let Dubas work his magic elsewhere to experiment and destroy that franchise. |

For the last couple weeks, it is SFA.

I doubt Hunter or really anyone maybe except Cirelli could screw up more than Dubas. Only dubas could take the nhl consensus team of the future and destroy it in less than 2 years.
Tell me if you are happy with the team dubas assembled. Someone should be responsible for this mess. |

It's OK Zez, I know everyone hates to hear it and thinks I am out to lunch...
I've been wrong before (we all have). I have also been right, about stuff that people here laughed about at first, but weren't laughing later.

I wonder if rielly is resentful towards the younger guys / dubas.
Him and kadri took reasonable rfa deals. These younger guys only saw dollar signs and maxing out their deals.
Dubas ships out kadri and marleau; drains the vet leadership to make room for the big money deals. It was all about who was making more money than who.
Then barrie comes in and starts female doging about is pp time and wanting to get paid next year.
The team stops playing, the coach that made rielly into a 70 point player is fired and he is booted from pp1.
He is playing like he wants out / away from this team. - Tumbleweed
If you're Reilly, getting booted from first PP would be a piss off. He's more than paid his dues. |

Is there some kind of online stat site that records the number of times Leaf forwards are on a rush then ‘turn back’ along the wall? I swear Kap, Willie, and now Matthews must do this dozens of times every game. None of this ‘take the puck to the net’ garbage. Curl away, avoid any contact, and go for the ‘lap’ around the outside... - Hockey_Reverend
Playing on the perimeter is a staple of soft wussy teams. |

LOL. He signed everyone and kept the entire core together. He did not trade a Taylor Hall entering his prime. |
