In his shoes I think I would want more than one year. One year would be risky given the amount of changes he will be facing. Plus he probably wouldn't be the starter right out of the gate. 2-3 years seems fair. If he is a superstar then he will get a big contract in the NHL. If not he can go back to the KHL while he's still in his 20's and get a good contract there.

Fair, I don't know what he's making in the KHL but I imagine he'd like to bet on himself and try to get a bigger NHL contract ASAP. Obviously the Isles would like to keep his cost low for as long as possible. I think he'll always have the KHL and a dump truck full of untaxed cash as a safety net, but who knows.

But I can certainly see the value in giving himself a little extra time to try and get established here. I'd love for them to lock him up relatively cheap for 3 years. That'd give them some breathing room while they wait out the deals of some of the overpaid older guys

They actually do have a cap in that league now and it keeps going down. doesn't seem to prevent the 2 teams from getting all the good players, but I am curious what they are paying at this point.

I remember when Kovy went there he spoke about how much more he would make especially with the 10% top tier tax bracket. He didn't take into account the Ruble tanking though. I wonder how he did in comparison to what Devils were paying him.

He’ll be annoying us till his next contract ends for the KHL.

I'll be disappointed, but it's clear the Isles success isn't hinging on him coming.

But given the reports that he's not negotiating an extension with CSKA because he wants to play in the NHL, the fact that the Isles signed Varly (who shares the same agent as Sorokin), and the prior reports speculating that he's likely to come over...I'm confident he will.

Maybe I end up way off-base, but I really think he has star potential. Imagine a top-notch goalie playing behind a team defense that has made three rather pedestrian goalies into some of the better ones in the league
