Why do people keep bringing up Vats? Is he available? He is their 1LD and plays for a GM who loves defensemen. Behind him are Greene, who is about to be put out to pasture, Butcher and Mueller. Not exactly a powerhouse left defense. - Hockey66
He's in the last year of his deal and NJ isn't going anywhere. He's not officially available, but there's a pretty good chance. |

We're actually so thin right now that this isn't exciting. - Tojo.
Hahaha that's what I was thinking...but it really does say something if he's a healthy scratch...
Nice start! |

We also got our little pieces (Schultz, Hainsey, Kunitz/Guerin, hell - even "the piece himself": Scuderi), but the last Hall-league player traded to win the cup is far back in the mirror... if you skip Carter '12 (funnily for JJ and a 1st) we're basically talking about our Reechi in '06. - VeryModernMan
You can't take out Carter though and don't forget Gaborik who was a huge add for the Kings second Cup.
But beyond rentals, there are plenty on teams who added a star forward and won a Cup that year: Kessel, Hossa in Chicago and helped get the Pens to a final, O'Reilly.
It just only works if the team is already good. Often the stud rental goes to a boarderline playoff team trying to make a statement. |

Imagine this defense tonight if Rutherford didn't pull Marino out of thin air. |

The blues know that seam opens in the diamond when they go high low quick. |

I said it before and I’ll say it again: you have to wonder how many more points Kahun would have if he played with Malkin and Jake |

Yup. Watching Simon butcher another scoring chance is frustrating. |

I like the guy and all, but at some point you have to bury the puck when given repeated opportunities. |

Could be a case of Vats and Shero not seeing eye to eye on contract discussions. They’re not a playoff team and have other holes to address. This whole thing on keeping Taylor Hall was to sign talent around him to convince him they’re going to be the real deal. It hasn’t happened yet AND Vats hasn’t yet been part of that equation. I’m not saying they should trade him, but he hasn’t been extended obviously
I think they look to bring in a defender and a goalie as part of a Hall trade. They still have Subban, Butcher, and Severson on D with Palmieri, Gusev, Wood, a somewhat resurgent Zacha, Coleman, Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Boqvist and it certainly looks like they’ll be in the lottery discussion this season. Might as well keep Hall to ensure they win the lottery and then trade his rights |

He stickhandled his way right on top of the crease and shot wide. It’s beyond frustrating at this point |

Yeah that was sweet but how many times have we seen him turn that over. Reminds me of when he turns it over when we have an empty net |

Yeah. That’s not a move to be attempted with an empty net. Not in that spot anyway. |

Yeah, I'd rather keep him in a bottom six role, except maybe for sometime like now when there are a lot of injuries.
But Simon does have more ES goals than Kessel and Galchenyuk combined. |
