Being near Dallas, I attend a few of their games and listen to the local media. They're fixing to make a trade to reinvigorate the squad. Names being floated.. Radulov and Benn... I don't think we could pull off either of those though.

Maybe Radulov. Good fit for what we need. Would be fun to watch him on the top line.

Does it coincide with having the worst linemates and PP group (not sure if this is true or not) of his career? He is also 32 years old and not into fitness it would seem. If I had to bet, I would say Kessel stays on his current downward trajectory.

Trading Kessel for an underwhelming return after an 82 point season was a total Patriots move (other factors aside) that I think will end up being a huge relief.

I’m sorry that you don’t understand simple percentages and how averages work.

Why the condescension? I replied to your post with a legitimate question and statement. If you don't want a discussion, then don't bother replying. I will be sure to avoid replying to you in the future.

I assume it was Madden and JR that compared him to Cam Ward? Regardless, yes, that is what I would worry about, too.

I hadn't even considered arbitration. I'm guessing that wouldn't sit too well with Murray, but I don't know.

Sort of a risk on the Pens part, too. It's binding, right? They better have a good idea of what range the number will be before going down that road.

Madden was interviewing Yohe and asked for insight on the current Murray slump and how the Pens view the upcoming contract situation. Yohe basically said JR doesn't seem to be in a hurry to hand him a big deal. He cited some of Rutherford's comments over the summer when he was asked about negotiating a deal for Murray. JR always defaulted to "he's restricted"....basically saying the team controls him. Yohe brought up the Ward comparison. I generally agree with Yohe's thoughts.....I've read those interviews. JR will likely be cautious.....thankfully.

Whoops, I meant to say "Madden and *NOT* JR that compared him to Ward." I guess it was neither haha. Anyway, glad to see it. Maybe JR isn't the softie we've been making him out to be.

It will be interesting to see what he does with Petts, too, now that he's not playing as well. JR really does deserve a lot of credit. Other than the JJ debacle and a couple of more minor hiccups, he's done really well the past couple of years. The Brassard debacle was just bad luck but had pretty big consequences.

Maybe Kessel using his contract terms to put JR over a barrel hardened him a bit.

You prefer narrative over factual based evidence. That’s where the discussion ends.

So you're saying that a player's career shooting percentage is pretty well fixed regardless of linemates, age, fitness level, etc.?

Here's some "factual based evidence" for you:

Shooting percentage is actually a fairy. It comes at night and taps players on the shoulder. Except for Simon, it poops in his cereal because he’s terrible at being a hockey player.

The most basic research would show Kessel has the lowest shooting percentage of his career and a 96 PDO...

By the end of the season those likely regress to the mean...

Weird stat on Kessel Yohe mentioned yesterday: he has 3 ES goals in his past 62 games. His shot totals keep declining too. He's still a great PP weapon, but he doesn't have the same burst and isn't as capable of creating his shot as he used to be.
