As far as the corners go, Simon also gets knocked around pretty good. At least with Simon he gets hit before he falls down.

Oh yeah I can agree on that.

I just think the fact he's so bad at finishing should take him off that line. The team has other options, almost everyone on this team is averaging .5 points a game, even Sam Lafferty.

I don't hate Simon at all, I just think he's a bottom six guy that maybe you slot higher with injuries or slumps. Good depth player though.

- Tojo.

My thoughts exactly. I actually like players like Simon...just not in the top 6 to waste glorious scoring opportunities created by Crosby and Malkin.

Good news indeed. Wow on Noesen, good for him.

Letang may just be a rest. He played over 27 minutes last night and most likely going to play big minutes tomorrow.

Not to rehash it, but the main problem with Simon is he just doesn't score enough. If he gets 12-15 goals I think most everybody would be happy. I think he does a ton well, they get more chances, possession, shots etc. with him on the line. At some point you need to produce.

Before this season his shooting percentage was 7.5%. if was doing that this year he would have 4 goals and be on pace for 12 goals, 32 assists.

I dunno. Some people think Letang suffers from a mild case of it and they’d like to trade him. Diagnoses are inconsistent. Symptoms come and go.

Simon is better in every regard other than shooting the puck. Much better board player. Defense and shielding the puck are way superior. I even think he's a better passer with better vision. Sheary has a better shot (obviously). Neither deserve 3mil contracts on this squad. I'd take Simon over Sheary every day of the weak because of his versatility, but I'd move on if he asks for a penny over 1.5mil. I'd prefer 1.25.

I'm amused that Galchenyuk and Simon are both on the 4th line and Noesen is on the second.

haha it is definitely amusing, especially relative to the frequent topics and arguments of this message board. Its also the sign of a pretty deep forward corps.

Sheary has a much better release than Simon. Sheary follows through hard and when he shoots high in tight he’ll throw his hands to the ceiling like an actual hockey player. Simons release point sucks. It’s almost like he has a shoulder injury and can’t finish the shot mechanic properly

I’m not part of the community that wants him gone but we’ve been asking for Kahun on Geno’s RW for over a month now

They are basically interchangeable. The beef I have with Simon, other than his scoring touch, is he just doesn't force the defense to pay attention to him. There was a play in St. Louis where Simon had the puck on his stick, crossing the blue line on a three on two. Malkin to his right and Guentzel to his left. Both defenders challenged Simon to drive the center with the puck, he tried to pass twice, first to Malkin who immediately gave it back because he was blanketed. Then directly to Guentzel who lost the puck because the dman anticipated the pass.

Last night was actually a better game by him because he was shooting the puck. I would rather see him do that than defer all the time. He can score I've seen him do it. Until he forces teams to see him as a threat, he is going to struggle.

There is no reason for Simon to be on the Penguins. I don’t care how many injuries they ever have. Take Noesen for example. His whole life he’s been s better hockey player than Simon but for some reason Simon’s riding shotgun wasting scoring chances with Sidney Crosby. Eric Goddard would have more goals in that many games with Sid than Simon does. Dudes garbage, I heard he had an animal cruelty charge against him as s kid too.

And Goddard would keep big bad Wilson away lol

He said the talent they were missing last night took them from a 105 point team to a 90 point team. Here's a paragraph:

In the team’s 10 healthiest games (where they’re still averaging 3.8 wins of player value lost), Pittsburgh has out-scored teams 30-19 at 5-on-5, a plus-12 goal differential in all situations, has controlled the expected goals share to an astounding 59.5 percent rate and carries a 6-3-1 record. That .600 win percentage is pretty close to what my model expects of them when fully healthy at this point and would make them one of the best teams in hockey.

Also 3 Pens made the leaderboard for best average game score in November: Malkin 2nd, Rust 4th, Marino 4 way tie 12th

You dropped a couple big news items on Madden from GMJR

The Pens aren't ready to give Murray the long-term deal he want yet and may just go to arbitration.

When asked if they'd try Galchenyuk back with Malkin, GMJR answered (also on Athletic now): Nah, not necessarily,” Rutherford said. “Not really. I’m not totally convinced that there’s the right chemistry there. You have to have players that have the chemistry, the right fit. I never felt that that was going to be a place for him. The fact of the matter is, when we’re totally healthy, he’s going to have to work very hard just to get in the top 12."
