Likewise...I am not sure how to respond to you. There is truth to the criticism on those games and parts of others. And really I don’t think anyone is denying that. It’s just that it is also fact that the team is much improved from last month, last season and the last several years. Folks can be excited about that, yeah? Happy even? Can’t win a marathon in the first few miles, but it’s good to see progress and that’s encouragement that you’re on track for a good finish. More or less, keep it up and recognize you have more to give.

I’m not saying nobody should be happy. I’ve said numerous times I’m very satisfied where we are but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t want more.

I’ll give the best possible example I can give. Jim Harbaugh at Michigan university in an Ann Arbor. He goes 10-3 every year. Looks pretty good but they never make the playoffs, which is one fail and they can’t beat Ohio state, which is another fail. Of course, those fans still have the blindly defend their team.

We had the most points in the month November but we also played the most games. We also acquired players we big contract. We’ve also gave away points and gave up leads in the process. I’m not gonna tell you guys how to feel. I’m offering how I feel.

Well I would ask you right now, are we a contender? I’m not saying no, but with the points I’ve made, make me question ifvwe are on that level yet. Show me these teams that were blown out and by whom. Don’t get guess, Offer me something tangible.

Bruins lost to Detroit 4-2 on November 8.
Caps lost to Montreal 5-2 on November 15.
Caps lost to the Rangers 4-1 on November 20.

That's just a few. I am sure all teams have a multi goal loss to someone so far this season.

We lost to Toronto a week prior and I don’t think Boston brought their best effort. They gave us a 40 minute head start and came back to tie it in the third period.
- SuperSchennBros

Do wins only count as long as the other team brings their best effort? I seriously don’t understand your point. Of course there’s room for improvement. That will always be the case.

One thing I will say though, is if they get steamrolled against Pittsburgh next time they play I’m going to be furious.

I think it would have to be Ghost and Laughton for Johnny G. To be honest I like Laughtons fit with the Flyers

By that time they should have Crosby back I think. Not sure the timetable on some other players, I know they are banged up.

Is it an argument if it's 1 verse 5? I know it's a slow day but just stop responding to certain people.

You are hyper focused on two specific games and no doubt about it, those games were brutal.

That Isles loss to me is as bad a loss as I have seen in a long time.

It's going to happen over the course of an 82 game season that the best teams, of which the Flyers are not yet, will lose leads or get blown out. That doesn't negate the positives of what those teams have done.

The following are facts that can be accurately stated:

1. The Flyers lost a three goal lead to the Isles
2. The Flyers had the most points in the league in the month of November.

One of those two items has substantially more gravitas to it then the other.

They have a home and home with the Pens that covers a ten day span starting on the 21st of January. I assume both teams will be at full strength.

Right. So just pick the games that fit the narrative and discount the ones that don't.

Bottom line this team is better than last year. This team has a winning record against teams currently in the playoffs in the East. They are currently in a playoff spot.

Why focus on the two worst games they had this year? Not saying you have to be completely happy with the team. Timing seems weird though. Attention?

- mickel25

All the games fit the “narrative” (you guys love this word). The games are too close.

This is what I wanna read. This is where we can see eye to eye. The Penguins aren’t dead in the water with Malkin and Crosby. We very much could be if we lose one guy.

I’m gonna try to approach this from a different angle.

Every year I set my own standard for the Flyers. This year it’s grab a top three spot in the division (no wild card) and get past the first round. As for players, G and Jake 70 points or better. Couturier 60 points or better. JvR and Hayes, 50 or better. You get paid the most, I expect the most.

Would any of you say you have an expectation outside of just being happy of where they are in November, no matter how many points they handed another team by going to overtime? I wanna be able to properly close out.

29 of 31 teams play one goal games on a regular basis. That is what the league is. They are winning games more often than they lose. Sure they are beating up on the bad teams. That's how you make the playoffs.

Beat the bad teams regularly and beat the good teams a little more than 50% of the time and you make the playoffs.

Do you expect them to be the Lightning of last year?

I’m sure this example would connect with me better if I didn’t root for the Buckeyes.

I guess the only solution is to let more games play out. I personally see the Flyers trending upwards. We’ll wait and see.

Close is how playoff games typically go also.
If it's they get experience in winning close games now then great.

Would I rather they win every game by 2-3 goals, sure but no team in the league does that.

Sorry there is no argument you can make where I'm not excited by the most points in the league for a month when they had a difficult schedule.

Enjoyed that and with the next game the next evolution starts and the next ten games become really important.

I have the same expectation regarding the playoffs. They are currently in that spot. I also want to win a round or two. They will continue to improve. They are still getting the system down. The goaltending, PK, defensive system, forward depth and forecheck are clearly better than last year. Those improvements alone make them a playoff team.

Yes my expectations going into this season were as follows :

1. The team missing the playoffs should be viewed as a disaster
2. Anything less than a round won should be viewed as a failure.

So far they seem much closer to preventing the second item vs achieving the first.

Well, now I can see how your expectations are a little lower than mine. I don’t just want to just make the playoffs, especially not on the last day. I want to convincingly get in. If you add the players that we did, for the money we did, we shouldn’t just squeeze in.

Never been a big advanced stats guy so not a huge fan of BSH but Niskanen has been awesome and Braun has been ok (better of late). Even though i just posted an article about Coots based majority off advanced stats

I don’t think our forward depth is that impressive.
