you're disagreeing with trading Johnsson for a Backup and pick/prospect? - plantheparade
Yes, stupid.
Trading a good player for a player that won’t play 1 minute in the playoffs, better ways to find a backup.

10x rather have Lindgren as a backup on the Leafs than Kinkaid. - plantheparade
2 years ago I would have agreed with you. I liked Lindgren, he was a fighter.
But he's been underwhelming since his interesting stint in the NHL.
At some point you could argue the bad numbers were a reflection of a bad team in Laval. But it's not the case anymore.... and Primeau is so much better than him that it doesn't make him look any better. |

Looks like the plan is the bring up Lindgren. Let Primeau develop in peace in the AHL.
Smart if you ask me. Despite Lindgren being an underwhelming option as a backup. - Scabeh You people and your (frank)ing goalies |

I think he's not as bad as the numbers suggest. He's had some good games and some bad ones.... so overall the feeling is that you can't really count on him, or at least you don't know how he will do.
What is even more telling is in inability to win a game. At some point you need to make one more save to keep your team alive and he hasn't been able to pull it off.
Bottom line, I think he's an upgrade of Hutchinson (butchered it) but he's been disappointing as a guy promoted as a solid backup. - Scabeh
Thanks.
Same with Hutch, he can't make that big save when you need it.
Not sure if you'd be willing to eat half of Kinkaid' salary. |

You just need to draft an amazing one every 12 years.
It's not rocket science really. |

Well, you didn't say backup you said;
trade Johnsson (for a good goalie plus a pick/prospect) |

Sure, Habs have plenty of cap space.
But what are they gaining out of it? A thank you? |

the backup problem is a problem because there is no space to pay more for one and the only dead weight is Ceci
But I think you can spend 5.2mil better than Ceci/Hutch

lol.
I guess I have to be more specific.
dunno which team is going to give up a legit starting goalie that at a salary of under 3.5mln + a pick/prospect.. seemed obvious what I meant..? apparently not. |

Or use the Boston method, which is to take advantage of a weak GM. |

1/ need a decent backup to actually get into the playoffs
2/ injuries - Freddy can get one as well.
makes more sense to make sure a team has a very good goalie tandem than to keep a fringe 2nd liner imo. |

There are better ways to get a back up goalie.. We don't need to trade a top 6 winger.
We could trade some bottom 6 players maybe to get a Casey DeSmith or Tristan Jarry? |

I am thinking a different category of backup goalies..
I'm looking at the NYR (Lundqvist, Georgiev); Dallas (Bishop; Vodka guy); Boston (Tuuka, Vodka guy #2) model. A few other teams have really good goalie duos as well.
I think it's the biggest risk any team can take of not having two really good goalies on their team - Freddy gets injured for over a month, and Leafs can likely say their playoff chances goodbye. |

great - now Keefe is going to ruin Hyman.
The guy that only has only 14 even strength points less (104 vs 122) than wonderboy Nylander over the last 4 seasons (this one included) - with very similar ATOI (just over 14mins) at even strength.
what is funny though is that "Nylander is on a great deal" with his 6.9mln AAV.
Should put Hyman on top6 - and trade one of Johnsson or Nylander (best the first one since least upside) if Leafs want to keep Mikheyev on top6 (deserves to be there).
Mikheyev and Hyman top6 LW
Marner and Nylander top6 RW
Tavares and Snake top6 C
trade Johnsson (for a good goalie plus a pick/prospect)
3rd line Spezza C, Kerfoot LW and Kapanen RW.
Moore, Engvall, Gauthier 4th line.
13th Timashov
and Korshkov next one up. - plantheparade
Id put hyman back with Matthews and nylander.
Put mikyaev with marner and tavares.
Drop johnson in with kerfoot and kapanen.
Role with spezza enqvall and Moore when he comes back. |

Ya I would try that as well. Hyman has success with Matthews and hyman.
Johnsson plays well with kapanen too. |

It's a good idea in theory, but Georgiev, Khudhobin and Halak will not come cheap. |
