I'm not blaming Aliu just questioning his true motivations.
- Reveen

Why should his motivations matter? If he made up a false story, you might have something, but he didn't. Peters copped to it.

He saw other players come forward and recognized that it might be a safe time to do so.

But it's so much tidier to just condemn these people in the court of Twitter opinion and then act as if they never existed. "Problem solved. Next problem please."
Just millennials repurposing Mormon shunning / Catholic excommunication is how I see it.

So much better than the Chinese who insist on trying to correct errant behaviour in their re-education camps - don't you agree?

- itwasin

Basically they're both questionable people... Peters with his treatment of players and Aliu with being a notoriously bad team mate and extremely difficult to coach.

Aliu has always loved to stir the pot... even going back to his junior days. Thats why I question the motivation behind this.

He wasn't afraid to speak out against hazing and had no problem going after team mates. Doesn't seem like the type of person who would hold something like this back without an ulterior motive.

He clearly explained it, just google it. It's the least disputable part of this whole thing.

Treliving's hiring of Peters brought shame to the Flames, destabilized the team and must tender his resignation regardless of his "due diligence". Leaders must claim ownership of success and failures alike. Leadership under Ken King has cycled through 10 head coaches since 2001 and has created a revolving door of excuses and failures. King's poor leadership, coupled with his 20 year record of questionable decisions has created a culture within the Flames that at the root of it lacks direction and foresight. Fire them all.

I am not a Calgary fan, an usually cheer for bad things for the flames. "You people" (cancel culture) are getting dangerously dumb. Old dudes, saying dumb, offensive, stuff just used to be a visit to Gramp's at the rest home,, not national news.

Watch how you respond. Words are dangerous!

How very edgy of you. This word he used should not be used "in any way shape or form" because it's racist. Grow the (frank) up.

The NHL is about to have it's own #MeToo movement....

There are plenty of ways to motivate players that don't involve physical abuse or uttering racial slurs to a member of a historically marginalized group.

It will balance out once the first coach sits a star player publicly for going out on an all night coke bender. I hate political correctness as much as anybody, this is not an issue of people being too PC.

Imagine if we had never had the chance to see someone like Iginla play because there parents didn't want to expose them to a sport they perceived to be racist. No room for this bullpoop in society anymore. Coaches are supposed to act like god damned professionals, they're certainly paid as such.

Peters' could have easily remedied the situation.

1. Music is to be turned down when he enters the room or the privilege will be revoked.

2. Music must be radio friendly edits.

There, problem solved without one of the whitest guys on the planet using the n-word

Totally agree... and in today's day in age should be held to said standard. But now look how many people are looking to dredge up the past.

Those aging dinosaurs like Peters and Don Cherry are being weeded out of the game and rightfully so.

Absolutely there was a dozen different ways to handle but to have someone say ".This word he used should not be used "in any way shape or form" because it's racist."
Reeks of hypocrisy when the music being played ot rumored being played was riddled with the same words.

Either the word is racist or its not. You see a billion videos of black youth calling eachother that same word and not bat an eye. Meanwhile their ancestors are rolling in their graves and grandparents or possibly even their parents are beside themselves with grief, since they personally were there in the 50's and 60's.
So many people fought and died to remove that word only to have the very same race use it as a (frank)ing greeting!

It's a racist word for everyone, or its not one at all.
I personally think it's racist and should not be used.

Right, but bolded the important parts of the above - not typically where guys that have some control over your career trajectory become involved.

True... but he was highly ranked in junior and his attitude issues derailed his career more than anything else. I guess he was probably feeling like he didnt have many chances left and would be better off letting it go.
