Didnt Stan really like/try to get Drouin several times when he was with TB? (Specifically they think/thought he would be a fit with Toews)

Drouin...while hurt now....has had issues in MTL

If Bergevin has been scouting the Hawks, maybe Drouin is the guy Hawks are looking to get? Another first round reclamation that Stan loves

Zach Smith (salary reasons)
Gus
Prospect (Sikura or Baudin)

- PatShart

Beaudin is a much higher prospect than Sikura.

I really like this proposal. Drouin has been a disappointment in Montreal and has had injuries. He has not been the same player he was in Tampa. Maybe getting away from Montreal would ignite him once he gets healthy. Not sure about losing a good young dman though.

Well Drouin this year has 15 points in 19 games. The start of the Habs 6 game losing streak coincided with him going on the IR. Seems like they could use him now instead of trading him.

When a team has Brett Kulak and Mike Rielly playing regular minutes on their backend, you know their General Manager will be out looking for actual NHL Dmen to replace those 2 stiffs. Lose 6 in a row and all of Montreal goes on suicide watch. So Bergevin likely was looking at any number of Hawks or Rockford Dmen, especially left hand shots.

Lets just hope he can't seduce Bowman by offering Dale Weise as a trade chip.

So if Montreal is looking for a defenseman that is NHL ready maybe they are looking at someone like Maata or Murphy or deHaan since Beaudin is at least a year away from being in the NHL The question is who the Hawks ask for in return?

I always look at things through the glasses of being a winning team. I don't think Sikura is a top 9 player on a winning NHL team. Sikura himself said last year the talent is better in the NHL v. AHL duh, and he may have to become a bottom 6 guy to make it in the NHL. Therefore I don't get too excited either way bottom 3 guys especially are a dime a dozen...
- rpeters01

I hear you, but I disagree. While finding bottom 3 forwards is easy, finding bottom 3 forwards who embrace their role and excel at it is something completely different. Guys like Kruger, Bolland and Frolik who accept their 4th line role are extremely valuable in the playoffs.

I was speaking in a general sense, not specifically to the Hawks. We all know Chicago isn't making the playoffs in the foreseeable future.

I don't know about Stan but, there were several folks on this board who wanted to make a run for him.

I never cared for him myself.

Sikura did have a dry spell after his hat trick two weeks ago but has picked it up point-wise the past few games. Even during the drought, he was still one of the best players Hogs each game.

IMO, Sikura is every bit of an all-around player as Highmore. Sikura can play middle 6 while Highmore as well as Wedin are more of bottom 6 forwards.

I liked that Highmore got the first call up. Agree with Tyler that had he not been injured most of last year, he would likely have ended the prior season on the Hawks and may have been on the team to start this current year.

Between Wedin and Sikura, I would have much rather have seen Dylan. Anton is a nice player but the rewarding of which Hog players get recalled over others doesn't seem merit based (this stems back to the Boqvist recall).

Sikura will be a quality 200 foot player somewhere in this league - he can skate, play in all three zones, play responsibly - he will score in The Show because he’s scored everywhere else.

Not sure why he wouldn’t fit into Colliton’s version of Brind’amour”s system, but I wish he’d get more than a 38 game shot here.

But - I don’t see all of the little things he may not be able to do....

- StLBravesFan

The same was said about Jokiharu and how did that turn out. Joki was found to be a hardheaded rookie who didn’t want to listen to Colliton or his staff. Joki attended the Worlds and was summarily sent back to the AHL afterwards. Then traded.

We don’t have all the info on Sikura but you have to figure something similar happened. If he’s so good down on the Rock why isn’t he here now?

I don't see Bowman tinkering much with his NHL defence other than to make KKK available and replace him with a Gilbert or McCoshen or one of the Euros. This team has to make a run at the playoffs with veteran players.

Bergevin is sitting on a big pile of cap space so he could afford somebody like Maata but why do that when he has a similar slower Dman like Karl Alzner sitting in the minors? He might take Gus, but then Claude Julien would have an aneurysm watching him play defence and have to go on Coaches LTIR.

Imo drouin is not what the hawks need right now for a power forward who is phyiscal can forecheck and speed. Kreider wood simmons etc. One thing i would not trade beaudin or Gilbert.

Agree. I don't see Stan trading one of the
vet defensemen either. He brought DeHaan and Maatta in for a purpose last summer to bring in a veteran presence and solidify the D. Maybe a D gets traded after this year, or at the TDL if the Hawks are out of it and if the return is something like a young stud forward prospect.

Only problem is this won’t be the juggernaut Avs.

This will be the juggernaut Avs minus Rantanen, Landeskog, Burakovsky, EJ, Wilson, Calvert, etc.

They are so incredibly decimated by injuries that they can’t be viewed as a measuring stick. Hawks should be able to win. And if we lose it won’t look good at all.

Those three were a fluke and could only be kept together a year, then Bolland had to go, next Frolik and Krueger finally got paid. The group that was good and cheap had Desjardin in it.

I think for the most part if you are really worried about your bottom three your top 6 is underperforming...

I think the first stop for a GM looking for Dmen would be BUF. With Sobotka out now they are in need of an NHL forward and are falling down the standings with 7-8 NHL Dmen on the roster, although Dahlin is dinged. ............. With Petry and Weber as PP guys would assume MTL is looking for a shutdown type, no?
