Ok, IF... we make a trade. And, package up Ghost and JVR for one roster guy (plus whatever, not roster guy). Do you want to get back an offenseman or defenseman?
- leon neon

Its tough to move 12.5 million in salary without taking back SOME trash in return.

Looking at all the cap space for each team, no team could do that deal without sending back a pretty high salaried guy in return. And that hinges on whether that team wants to move their high salaried, hopefully productive, player for two high salaried unproductive players. I just don't see it happening.

so offense or defense? ghost and jvr together are under 12 mil. if in the offseason many teams could make this work.

Time is running out to trade and sign Puljujarvi, 12/1. They say he can be had for a 3rd round pick. Ghost was a pretty good 3rd round pick.
- Djapana

if that's all it took i think they will have suitors. and i would be willing to give the third.

I would trade Ghost for a young NHL ready forward if possible.

I think JVR is untradeable.

Tonight has to a victory. A convincing victory. Not a 2-1 game in regulation. Not a 2-1 game in OT. Not a 2-1 game after a shootout. Tonight has to be a 5-1 minimum.

Morgan Frost has been good but I don’t agree with him being our first or second line center. Couturier and Hayes have to our play Frost. I don’t agree with JvR being on the fourth line. Jake has been allowed to play through it, JvR needs the same.

- SuperSchennBros

Winning 2-1 or winning 5-1 still counts as two points.
What I would agree with is I dont want a 3 point

I dont have any issue with Frost playing where he is..The team has done solid with him in that role , why deviate?

Im not a fan of JVR on the fourth line however.

I would swap Laughton and JVR.

Put Laughton at 4th C, move Raffl to wing.

JVR has never been a play driver. He is a pigeon as Giroux called him, and he needs good linemates to get the puck to a place where he can pick up the trash.

That doesnt make him a bad player per se, it makes him a very good trash man.

I don't really want to move Ghost until he gets better (more consistent) usage with the Top 6 F/PP unit with G and Jake on their correct sides, but if he was traded, I wouldn't mind trying to get something like Josh Anderson+ from the Jackets.

Think they should hang onto ghost. They need 7 nhl capable dmen injuries are inevitable.

i understand that, concerns me as hayes has had defensive responsibilities and laughts has looked good playing on that more of a shutdown line. and i like him on wing more; the speed of that line would scare me a bit (jvr and hayes). the last resort is putting him with coots and lindblom or tk to get him going or frost and g. it seems like we have a lot of interchangeable pieces, but they don't all fit well together yet.

that 4th line has had some nice looks the last two games.

depends if it is in or offseason and who it is. not trying to be indecisive. in season i would prefer d. offseason doesn;t matter as you have time to fill holes. they both add up to over 11 mil....you looking at doughty???
- Peter Richards

Don't know who yet. I was thinking if this went down today (soon).

Doughty, not sure if they'd do it. For that matter, not sure if I'd/Flyers would do it.
The contract is ok now, but future could be an issue. He's 29, with an 8 year contract. JVR contract is long, but Ghost has a good contract, but not playing well right now. Drew would definitely be a difference on our blue line.

Ghost to me is an easily tradable player. Jvr i agree with whoever said it. at this point almost untradeable. with one or two years left he may be easier to trade. Think he or jake may be taken in the expansion. I said defense in season. My hope was trade him for a more defensive minded player around his age to help another team with their offense and PP. I think other teams will still value him high. Larson for hall straight up a few years ago. Thats why my number one target would be nurse from oilers. Perfect philly style. But with that being said....there are plenty of players i would take in a 1 for 1 trade. if for a lesser d could see a prospect or pick coming back our way.

Yeah, same. He is an effective player, and brings a physical element to that I think we are missing, without sacrificing skill to get that element. Only problem is there is not a ton of room in the Top 9 for him.

Best I could think to fit him in, would be to move Laughts to 4C and let Anderson take that spot on the 3rd line.

Do you honestly believe that's the plan? AV himself said he will slot back in this week, either Friday or Saturday.

Personally, I think; 1) Ghost is typically overvalued by the Flyer fan base - less tradeable than most think, and 2) the reverse for JVR undervalued and more tradeable I agree, JVR length of contract is the issue - not his game play. I also think teams may have issue with Ghost's game play - you can't slack off as a defensman and not be noticed.

With prospect forwards playing well, I think I'm leaning toward needing a new Defenseman.

I dont think our opinions differ too much. Just how they were presented quick. I agree with almost everything you said. I think teams will overpay more for a player like ghost. That’s all. I as well think he is overrated. With Myers and sanhiem provie and nisk I am willing to shop him.

Does anyone remember a game in Columbus years ago...Flyers were down by 5 goals with less than 5 minutes left in the 3rd and came back to win 6-5 in regulation? Mason was in against Bob, I think, maybe my details are fuzzy.

Edit:

So I think I’m remembering this game and details from an older Richards game, maybe.

Agree with JVR. Paying him 7M, give him some players to work with . Fourth line players and minutes probably wont help him in anyway. If he doesn't work hard enough in 5-5 play then maybe the coach shouldn't reward him with PP time. That's the area he should be in the dog house for. Keep him on the PP 1 IF he shows some life in 5-5 play.

Bullpoop!

With this roster, winning close and losing close games the past three to four weeks should be frustrating for everyone. Winning 2-1 has low stats by our top players becoming more and more noticeable. This roster should blow bad teams out.

Period!
