Except we have no idea if Botterill has drafted well yet.

I also love completely dismissing the Dahlin pick. Of course anyone would've drafted him, however he gets dinged for winning the lottery?

So a guy who nails a pick at say 10th, is more competent than the guy who wins the lottery and picks 1st?

The team needs players to hit in the mid-rounds. Point blank, period, end of story.

You can't trade your way to the top, and FA rarely pans out.

People want to give the Hurricanes all the credit in the world for being "Smart". Yet dismiss that the previous GM they had nailed Pesce and Slavin in the mid rounds. They also drafted Aho in the 2nd round.

The Bruins have 3 superstar forwards, drafted by them, none in the top half of round 1.

The Lightning landed Kucherov, Point, Johnson, Killorn, outside of round 1.

The Preds drafted Arvidsson, Josi, and others outside of round 1.

It has to happen here. Period

What if Mittelstadt is to Botterill what Nylander was to Murray?

Where does that leave Botterill

How is this hard to understand? No, you don't get credit for finishing last. It's not a display of hockey acumen.

You also don't get any credit for taking McDavid or Dahlin when you do pick first. Again, it shows no special hockey IQ.

There are some things which happen which make your team better that are luck. For example, if Okposo retires tomorrow, we will be better. Botteril doesn't get any credit for it though.

In short, Botts doesn't get credit for being the GM of the worst team in Hockey. He also doesn't get credit for walking up there and saying "I'll take the first guy on the board please."

He does get credit for the product on the ice.

I don't know. I'd prefer that not to be the case.

Maybe Botterill moves him then

I am making myself believe this is intentional and we are still tanking.

Top5 here we come.

- RhinoFan

Paying to the cap to tank - that is good management, even paying to the cap to suck. Not a lot of bang for your buck.

Very true but, then we wouldn't see Larsson skating around taking dumb penalties still confused as to what he is doing.
- SABRES 89

Gotta keep the guys that have perpetuated this culture for YEARS! Larson, Grigs, McCabe, Risto should all be gone. I know we are stuck with Okoposo, but sadly, he will end up on ltir and I wouldn’t be shocked to see a savard or Horton situation for the duration of the contract at some point.

I’m just tired of this group. Tired of the lack of heart. Tired of the crap play, defensemen playing wing, insane line combos.

Skinner - Eichel should be where you start
Mitts - Samson should be the next thing.

Figure the rest out....

Who said it was? Who's "giving him credit" ?

My point is that you're spinning him making the obvious choice into a negative. And it's ridiculous. Like Dahln doesn't count on this roster.

Does that apply across the board then?

Which ones are those?

And FYI if were going to claim Miller was bad because he sat, same applies to Nylander who's made about 3 nice plays this year and outside of that has been beyond brutal

- sbroads24

Of the UFA deals ending after this year, Botts traded for or signed:

Sheary
Girgs
Larry
Erod
Vesey
Scandella
Sobotka
Hunwick
Scott Wilson

The ones he isn't responsible for:
Bogosian
Okposo

Nuff said.

Does Botterill have an issue with black players? Hasn't drafted a black player yet, signed one, or traded for one. But has traded black players at any given opportunity Little suspicious from Botts.

Traded

Evander Kane
Justin Bailey
Nicolas Baptiste
Devante Stephens

Okposo better watch out. He might be next.

Of course he does count as on the roster. It's just when someone says "look at all the talent Botts has added" it goes Dahlin first. And I'm sorry but drafting Dahlin isn't a reason to not fire someone who is incompetent.

For the record. They are currently (frank)ing Dahlin up so badly that I want to cry. They were gifted him, and all they have done since getting him is make him worse.

Jesus dude. He's 19 and went though a bad stretch.

They've yet to scratch him or Jokiharju despite everyone (myself included) thinking they will

at what point is it botts fault instead of tim murray?

at what point is it krugers fault instead of housley

at what point are these players just not worth building around and ship them out

- homiedclown

idk...all I know is we're 24 games into Krueger's first season behind the buffalo bench...they have a certain way they want the team to play and they don't have all the pieces to do so as of yet...

what else is there to say?

I see two options with Mitts.

1- wing in the top 6.
2- center in Rochester

That’s it! He’s being griganko’d. He’s given no vet leadership at the position. He is being forced into a position he isn’t ready for and has been since last year.

I know Nylander is a bit of a stiff, but is there some truth in the “not developing player properly” quote.

Tage should have been in Rochester from December on last year.

It was clear last year Mitts was over his head and they are still forcing the issue!

Wing in the top 6 or center in Rochester. That’s it...

100% agreed. On everything. The team has an attitude and work ethic problem that has been common knowledge for years.

Eichel, Reinhart, and Skinner are not the problem. Mitts, Dahlin, and Oloffson are young enough they get a pass. The other 16-17 players honestly are interchangeable. Dump all of them and replace them with random NHL depth players and you're probably about the same.

maybe it's time to question if kruger is the right man for this team
- homiedclown

Let’s just say for arguments sake that he’s not the right guy
Can’t see a change being made in season
Probably not in the off-season either unless we finish terribly again

I know you know enough about stats to know it's more than that.

He's a different player this year. His possession stats last year were elite. He was a top 20 defenseman in the league at 18.

Krueger got his claws into him, started benching him for the third period Everytime he made a bad pass, and now the kids offensive numbers are terrible. His zone entry numbers are bad. His possession numbers are bad. He's actually struggling more offensively than defensively.

Maybe he gets it in the next ten games. One thing is for sure, Krueger has not been good for Dahlin.

Hell... keep Asplund, Lazar. Add Pilut. That’s 3 you can add easily! Tage could be one as well, when healthy.
