Dunno if Colorado with injuries to two of it's impact guys are gonna simply roll over for the Blackhawks.
They didn't last night.

Kubalik is Sharp like without the wheels. Both have a little snarl to their game and can drift it. Kubalik just doesn’t have Sharps speed/quickness. I wouldn’t count out Dach being an elite player. He is just 18 and I don’t think he’s done growing. Toews came into the league pretty physically mature. Dach looks like he’s 12.

Although Kubalik has potential and needs some more time to get comfortable with the NHL game, he is no Patrick Sharp and won't ever be. He is never going to slide into the center position if circumstances require it and he certainly won't have the cache and influence Sharp had in the dressing room.

Sharp was a pretty important player on those Cup teams, overshadowed but a real contributor.

Huge roll he was a ppg guy in the 2010 playoffs. Wasn’t saying Kubalik was Sharp. He doesn’t have the skating to be that kind of dynamic force. I used to love the nuclear option 10 19 88.

He was an all star and early in his career killed penalties and piled up short handed goals.

Happy thanksgiving to all. I can't read the sports section coverage of the hawks and haven't in a decade. Agree or not, I get more thoughtful insights here, the Rink, and the old Daily Herald. So thank you all.
If I had one choice of an Xmas gift it would be to have Ben-Ben from the old Herald thread show up here now and then. That guy was piss your pants funny.

Even with 2 key guys out Colorado is still the better team.

I would call Kubalik, Sharp lite. Sharp was faster and a better scorer, however I like what I have seen from Kubalik so far, he’s been a good addition by Stan. The kid has a nice shot and could score 18-25 goals for us. Don’t think he’s a first line player, but could eventually be a third line player on a contending team. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

My only point was they may have four rookies but so far they are not replacing cup winning players with cup winning players.

I can see why Rod can get the Canes to play with the effort they do, straight shooter, what you see is what you get

True... but how often does that happen? And when it happens how often does itwork out well (see Kunitz, Chris).

There is always natural turnover with teams, that's not a bad thing.

Maybe, maybe not. My point is yes you’re correct that as things stand today, they are not being replaced by Cup winning players, but it’s also not a fair comp as none of us know what any will become.

Agree with 2241 about Dach...still growing and could be an absolute stud/game changer. The makings are there. Will he win a Cup? Idk, but he appears to be a guy that they will build around along with Boqvist.

Also pointing out your comp isn’t fair because Kane was the only younger player of the three you mention. Hossa was already an established vet who’d played in two Cups and Sharp was like 24 and an older rookie when the Hawks got him from the Flyers.

To further the point, we added Maatta, a young cup winner, and brought back Saad, and both have been whipping boys on this board at different times.

The thing about the young guys “replacing” cup winning players is conjecture as well. While they may not look like they could compete in the Playoffs, we don’t know until they actually get there. Bickel was notorious for being average in the reg season and a monster in the PO. I personally think Kubalik could be of the same ilk.

Understood, and we also don’t know what we have in these young players, some will make it, some will not, let’s hope two or three become all star type players. As far as replacing Hossa, it ain’t happening, arguably the best two way forward of all time, but teams do win cups without a Hossa, the NHL was founded in 1917, and Hossa only won three Stanley cups.

Yeah he's a no bullpoop kind of guy. And despite having impeccable hockey cred, he quite often uses it to subvert and call out some of the bullpoop in hockey culture. Like the Storm Surge thing.

The players Tallon managed to get in '05-'08 truly were the "perfect storm" and only the cap managed to destroy a juggernaut not seen in many years. Not sure how much StanBo learned during that period?

Suppose will see as the jury is still out.

Different scenarios really up until now as Stan is is more akin to the one the immortal Builder was in then...minus of course a first overall pick and then a 10 or 11, wherever Kyle Beach was picked, also no Salary Cap the first few years, so again, not necessarily apples to apples.

Dach/Toews and Boqvist/Skille give their draft positions would be washes with Stan being able to possibly pick up pts even if Boqvist merely sticks in the NHL.
