simply by making that coaching change my optimism and excitement level did a 180
I had no intentions of watching the game last night, but once Babs was canned and Keefe put in place, i wasnt missing it. as each game went on I just felt worse and worse about watching the team.
And its all about Babs and his stuborness, I just felt nothing would change.
Now I cant wait for the next game, and we invited friends over to watch. - senstroll
Just a guess, but I wonder if it was just the body language and effort of the players, and did they maybe talk to a few key guys in the room and find out that the whole atmosphere was just real bad... you know it was. - Aetherial
Yeah I think that was part of it too.
As someone said earlier from their "source". The team just began tuning him out and were at odds with him.
I think even the Captain probably couldn't much to bridge the gap between players and coach.
I'm waiting for the investigation to conclude not biased twitter users.
One of those "whistles" signals a fastball, and they show Springer take it high for ball four. Whoop-te-doo. Why wasn't he swinging if it was a fastball? That one was borderline - the ump could have easily called it a strike.
It feels like butthurt people so far. I'm sure there's something to it, but nothing's been proven yet. First it was garbage cans. Then it was bats. Then it's complex whistles. Soon it will be satellite signals and a laser they bounced off the Moon.

well Mike Fiers went on the record and said they did.
But knowing a FB is coming doesnt mean you auto swing. depends on the count and what you are trying to do
The biggest thing is the defensive game by the whole team wasn't too bad. Yes, it was Arizona, and they did allow a few big chances, but it seemed less crazy in their end last night.

We'll never know for sure, but I think it is a convenient narrative for the players to claim they were thinking too much because the systems were too complicated. In fact, I haven't read where a player actually said that, but I have heard it.
I think it far more likely that they were 1) Sick of him 2) didn't agree with him 3) pissed off at stuff like ice time and that basically meant they were mentally checked out.
Babcock had to go. There is no question. This is not all on him though.
I think what I find annoying is that my biggest concern is that some people on this team need to be professionals and grow up. Some of the quotes that are thinly-veiled shots at Babcock, like 2 days after the guy was fired, are classless, unprofessional and immature. - Aetherial
Yes, yes and yes.
I think that "need to be professional" portion is the main point to focus on going forward - or in other words - "don't pull that work-to-rule garbage again"...
what they did - whether intentionally or unintentionally - to Kaskisuo was unforgivable. I would hope that Shanahan (not Dubas) would walk into the locker room at the morning skate when Kaskisuo is starting - and say something like - 'time to pay the team, fans and that guy(K) back".
It is ultimately up to Dubas to actually "manage" this part of the team dynamic going forward.
Fact is - the rift (or whatever you want to call it) between Dubas and Babcock - should never have been allowed to get to this point. Egos aside - and Babcock isn't the only one with a giant ego in this equation - their responsibility is to the team - not their own agendas. Same goes for the players.
I don't know about you... but I don't really want to hear anything about philosophy anymore. This isn't about philosophy.. "Can I build a roster than wins"? ... don't care. I'm more interested in "can I adjust my roster in the face of obvious needs"?
What was Babcock accused of THE MOST? Not adjusting - his goal tender usage? his PP deployment? his defensive structure? his in game adjustments? non-existent would be the general observation - so Babcock is therefore a stubborn unbending jerk
What has Dubas adjusted in his "roster construction"? ... exactly, nothing..
so therefore Dubas is and unbending jerk - "philosophically" speaking?

wouldn't it be awesome if it stayed that way? - Symba007
Yes.
Even better if the leafs had the 11th pick as well.
Max would have a field day.
The kool aid drinkers would be running rampant trying to spin a story or simply gone.
The rest of us would just sit back and watch the nonsense.

Yotes outplayed a lot of teams in their building this year .

Not a gimme to shut the yotes down this year. - Tumbleweed
Fair enough. It was nice to see though. Usually it's a mess, and they did get hemmed in a few times, but it never felt crazy like it usually does. There were some mistakes but overall a much better team d effort. Let's hope it was not an anomaly.

I watched all the Calder cup games the year they won. He was bottom pair who gave the puck away regularly and couldn't get the puck out or make a play. He was brutal. - burn
Yup. He is and always has been trash.
I said right after they won that he didn't deserve to be a AHL Champion with the rest of the team.
