I would be shocked if they move Bailey. Trotz loves him - Vukota
I'm not saying that I think they should or will likely move Bailey, but things are going to get real tight this summer and I just don't know where else they'll be able to clear significant cap space.
Ladd is unmovable
Komarov is unmovable
Mayfield is a candidate but his contract is pretty meager and wouldn't save them much
I'm sure they'll try to move Hickey, but that only saves about $1.5M (assuming he stays in BPT, that is. I know his AAV is $2.5M)
I guess things will hinge on the cap ceiling going up and how much that increase is.
On one hand Bailey is an important player in Trotz's eyes and in the eyes of the fanbase. He's a valuable player on this team and that's important. On the other hand, Bailey is in his 30's now and has 4 years left on a deal with no NTC/NMC, trading him while he's still got a lot of value could save $5M in cap space and land the Isles some pretty nice pieces.
Not saying they should do either, just laying out what it appears their options are. |

I have a funny feeling Ladd is done after this season. Lou is gonna tell him to either go on LTIR or finish your career in the A. Also some of those other contracts can be moved but they are gonna have to give up some assets to get it done imo |

I guess Komarov becomes a bit more movable after this year. Two years remaining but if the Isles pay his $1M bonus for the 3rd year of a deal, a new team only has to pay his base salary, which will be less than his cap hit (3rd yr: $1.5M, 4th yr: $2M). I'm not really convinced that many teams will want his services, but you never know who wants some 4th line depth I guess.
Maybe they find a way to rid themselves of Ladd, the herpes of the NYI, but burying him in the AHL only saves them just under $600k and LTIR can be dicey. I hope to god they find a way to do it though. |

Can Boychuck be moved at all? Would open a full time spot for Dobson. |

Technically he could, his NMC has changed to a M-NTC...but there are only 8 teams that he can be traded to and you can bet your ass that he and his agent probably strategically select 8 teams that can't absorb his cap hit.
His salary for the two seasons after this one does drop to $4M total ($2.75M bonuses each year + $1.25M base salary) so that could make him slightly more attractive to other teams...but I don't think you'll see him in another jersey unless Seattle takes him in the expansion draft. |

I know I’n a broken record on this but there really needs to be an adjustment in terms of the length to 28 and 29 year old players. |

I'm sure the owners would love for that to be the case but good luck selling that to the NHLPA, collective bargaining will prevent that from ever happening |

Basketball seem to have gotten it done in terms of contract length and Basketball is not even physical like hockey. |

I don’t want to see Boychuk moved at all. Even if he does get hurt or he sits in the press box occasionally, he is a huge part of what’s going on here regardless of whether he plays or he doesn’t. He’s clearly one of the more popular guys in the locker room and he’s a leader on this team. Trading him for a pick just isn’t worth losing his presence in the room. |

I'm a Boychuk fan, too. He's still an effective d-man. He's only got two more seasons left on his contract after this one. If I'm Lou, I'm in no hurry to move him. I'd be looking at other ways to free up cap space, if it became necessary. |

I’m with you both. Have no idea the push to get rid of boychuck. Guy is still an obvious integral part of the team. I get it his cap hit is significant there are far worse players we’re blowing cap space on imo. I would understand it if the guy had nothing left to offer but with him being still a viable player and offering some veteran leadership to a pretty young blue line I have a hard time understanding the let’s get rid of boychuck mantra. |

I do not think it will happen and it's not about not liking Boychuk but it would open up a spot for Dobson next year and the Isles have to create Cap space somewhere and getting someone to take Hickey will not do much. If getting rid of Ladd is not an option you have to look at Bailey or Boychuk. Boychuk has been great with leadership but after this year and what will hopefully be a nice playoff run, the young dmen should be good in terms of experience. Cannot have Dobson sitting most of next year as well and Wahlstrom may be ready. It makes sense to look at Bailey and Boychuk as the Isles have young players that may be able to step in. |
