So Duber's team isn't performing well and he's gotta save his job. He can ride it out and see what happens. He can trade a big name out and send a message to the boys. Or he can fire Babsy. I think he made the safest and probably the best move for his team/job.

biggest question is when Shanahan will remove Dubas' training wheels...

How nice of you to post a picture of yourself.

He had the third most minutes for forwards actually. But regardless, Tanner can’t even fact check his own facts. But if he isn’t wrong about something we’d have nothing to talk about because his actual opinions are garbage.
- Trevrrrgavo

Johnsson, Matthews, Nylander and Tavares all played more than him, but you’re right it’s irrelevant and the rest of your post is bang on.

Everyone is quick to point out the Leafs have only 1 d-man signed for next year, with no cap room.

Am I the only one that reads these comments and wonders why these posters always fail to consider the $13.5 milllion (estimate) that is freed up when those 6 (Ceci, Muzzin, Barrie, Dermott, Holl and Moroncin) have their contracts expire? It's not like we still have to pay them, even though they are not under contract any more.

No way the Leafs can keep all of them if their demands are what we expect (e.g. Barrie at $8+), but still, have to think something like this might be possible....

** disclaimer....just rough numbers to get an overall picture. Forgive me if the numbers are a little high/low individually **

Muzzin....$6 million ($1.5 million raise)
Dermott...$3 million ($2.37 million raise)
Holl........$1.5 million ($1.325 million raise)
Moroncin.......good riddance!...another $700K saved

You add Sandin......$900K.....and you basically have about $2 million to fill in that last space on the blueline (I do not could Moroncin's salary as someone will need to be a 7th D at a near-$700K rate). We all hope Liljegren is that guy....especially at $863K a year....but still, seems to me like putting a blueline together next year is not as difficult as a lot of people are making it seem.

Simply put, I can see why the tickets for the Leaf games are grossly overpriced. Where else can you fire someone and still payout millions. Dubas pays out coaches and players for what they might do based on flawless computerized analytics. His analytic mind is ensuring most of us will never be able to afford going to a game

Supply and demand sets the ticket prices. Spending is a result not a cause.

Yeah not at all that the game is changing and Babcock didn’t have the backs of the majority of the team.

New players are in the NHL and obviously they respond different. You can either yell at clouds and wish it was 1990 or adapt and do what’s best for the team.

(frank)ing finally. Ffs no more poop 4th line and some

I like this as well. I wonder what happens to the first PP when Marner returns.

Don't forget that they also have 6 forward positions to fill next season and a backup.

Should have been done after the playoffs last season. The players had already lost faith in the coach and system at that time.

Stats guy can't even get ice times properly, Hyman was 5th among forward in TOI, less than AM.

Dubas is such a disappointment..

He’s yammering on about being the softest team is a good thing ffs.

This is a disaster.

Not forgotten...but look.at the 6 in question. Mikheyev is the only one that might command a decent raise.

There is some work to be done, for sure.....just not completely hopeless like so many posters like to think.

Yes, absolute correct move. Now Babcock can get a job with another organization and win.
- Glak18

Yes because he sure did great with all that talent in Toronto.

Maybe he can go to Calgary and cut Gaudreau's TOI to 16 minutes per game.

You almost had to, at this point.

Now, it's on the players to perform... and to see if Dubas' grand plan comes together.

No more fall guy.

- OzBolts

I think Dubas' grand plan included some kind of cheaper and/or bridge deals for Marner/Matthews/Nylander. This coupled with a higher cap ceiling would allow him to retain (Bozak/VanRiemsdyk/Gardiner, etc, etc) or sign FA's for depth and have his top players on undervalued contracts

When that didn't happen cap wise, and he paid retail for his young guns Dubas' plan went out the window and he's pretty much just winging it right now
