I know this is against the prevailing opinion here, but I cannnot stand Krueger. Everything he says sounds like every corporate HR officers mindlessly anodyne corporate PC-speak. It makes me want to kick puppies.

He's an optimistic and very positive guy. That may come across like corporate bs, but it's tough to hate a guy that tries to keep things upbeat.

Eichel has 157 zone entries this year which is 3rd in the entire league behind McDavid and Gaudreau.

If they force Reinhart or Vesey to carry the puck in it will be a long night.

I’m assuming they’ll get the Bergeron line too so hip hip hooray.

Pretty spot on here Mike. I retract my previous comments about Eichel not deserving the C. He has shown why he does in the past couple of games for sure. I like Montours game. I’m glad we picked him up and he will be a part of the solution in years to come.

I don’t hate Vesey on the top line with Eichel. I’ve been screaming for this for about 5-6 weeks.
I bet we are all surprised at the result (pleasantly)
Eichel will not disappoint in front of his hometown crowd tonight. As for the rest of the lines, I’ll hold my breath

Michael, great blog.
Apparently you are watching the same the am as me.
You're description of them is perfect.
As someone who grew up watching the French Connection and pretending to be those players on a pickup hockey game, these recent teams are just utter disappointment.

I really don't have a clue how to turn this team around. Most posters here demand trades and getting rid of the bums, which certainly isn't a bad idea.

But will that change things?? All i see is everyone disappointed again and grasping at straws. I have no answer and for those that think things will change quickly are setting yourself up for disappointment.

I get more enjoyment out of the blogs than the games. Who would have ever thought??

...."Botterill acknowledged he's facing a couple of hurdles as he's juggling the cap and cap implications for his team...."

Who is responsible for them being tight to the cap and not being able to pull off a trade unless it is money in, money out? Jason Botterill.

With Larsson back in the line-up tonight, t he Sabres go crazy in Boston. Local boys Eichel and Vesey with 2 each and Larsson with the other. 5 - 2 Sabres win.

Let's roll.

GM Brad Treliving will try to breathe new life into the group. I’m not sure how easy that’s going to be as the Flames are tight to the cap. And he’d be selling low on some useful players. Let’s take Mark Jankowski, for example. He’s really struggling, with zero points in 21 games. He scored 31 goals the last two seasons, seven of them shorthanded. I do think he’s available, but they see his value over the last three seasons while other GMs will say, “Well, we see this year.”

They’ve had Michael Frolik available for awhile, and it will be interesting to see how close to their core they are willing to get if their struggles continue. (My guess is not that close until the off-season, with the possible exception of Travis Hamonic, if he does not get extended.) Monahan may not be scoring, which hurts, but they asked for improvements in other areas of his game — such as faceoffs, where’s he’s got a career-high percentage. One interesting possibility: Oliver Kylington, who would like more opportunity. But, again, other teams have indicated the Flames are being careful not to undervalue their own players during tough times.

I don’t think their cap can take the hit though. They are worse off than we are
