I hear what you're saying but imo if you are going to trade Saad then you continue on the youth movement without salary. No way i trade Saad this year since he has a year left on his contract unless the offer is too good to pass up.
As i said before the 2 guys i trade are Crawford and Gusto
And if Lehner doesn't sign an extension, I'd trade him to.
Hawks might be able to out do Boston (3 some year) and have 4 1st round picks - BetweenTheDots
Trading Saad for a loser is dumb.

Hawks signed him to a 1yr deal for $5mil? He had a great year with the Isles, past is relevant |

That had more to do with the fact that this was his first year of playing actual good goaltending and it was in front of Trotz defensive minded system. Griess looked damn good last year too. Plus, with his mental health issues it was a lot to ask a team to commit the money AND term at that time. After two strong seasons, that will likely change. Especially with the Hawks D hemorrhaging shots every night |

Not forever especially if there are multiple bidders IMO.

My understanding the Isle's offered him 2 x $5 mil. and they wanted an answer immeidately. He took a couple of days and they signed Varlamov and said to Lehner he took too long.

The issue is with Shaw and The Drake injured, they only have 11 forwards. - tvetter
I get that. I don't want 7D rotating on the back-end. Best 6D play. IF you want to put KK at forward then fine. But then you aren't really dressing 7D. |

Isn't there an available roster spot - just the perfect size for a game or two for Sikura, Wedin, Highmore.... - StLBravesFan
Yes please. Sikura. |

It wouldn't surprise me if the Hawks only offered him a 2 year deal at $6 mill. With a hard cap and his prior issues |

It would say you are too great of a risk to sign to a long term contract and the Hawks are right. Has there been a year when 2 goalies get traded for 2 first round picks for the same team? It might happen this season |

You would also have to make sure they can be replaced. Delia, Lank, Tomkins, Gravel ... who pans out as a number 1? |

Lehner's resume doesn't look like a "one-hit-wonder": several good seasons with Buffalo before last season with the Isle.
2015-16: 21 games .924 2.47
2016-17: 59 games .920 2.68
2017-18: 53 games .908 3.01
Then last season with NYI, and this season here.
I think a proven goalie at 29 next summer, probably looking for a cash-rich final contract.

I think you pay him. Use Crow's money that is off the books. Lehner is already making 5 mil this year. I don't think Strome warrants a Dcat type bridge. He hasn't shown he can produce with Dcat and/or Kane on his wing. |

Yep, this is definitely the way his side of the negotiation will look at it.
Actually very similar to the current Crawford contract.
Two other factors, Crow had won multiple Cups and Lehner will bargain for salary inflation/rising salary cap. |

Crow will bring a first round pick in our dreams. All the good teams have a goalie or don't have the cap space. Crow gets to decide where he goes. Crap teams aren't about to give up a lottery pick for a rental 36 year old next year concussed goalie. "The past is relevant." |
