Do you have any input as to what happened to him after he signed that big contract with Carolina. Too much pressure on him to live up to it? I also heard he may have broken up with his girl friend at that time. I hope he didn't fall off the wagon. - boilermaker100
The biggest issue was just in dealing with the way Carolina plays hockey.
They accept that they're going to give up rush chances against. Nobody gets in trouble for it and Darling had difficulty dealing with the chances. Lost some confidence, and things just snowballed.
Team gave him a vote of confidence and brought him back with Mrazek being the back-up plan. With Brind'amour as coach, the team took what they were doing under Peters and cranked it up to 11. Darling actually looked good in preseason, but got injured and seemed to really feel the pressure. When he got back in the net, he flubbed a couple early and you could just tell he immediately went into "Oh no this is happening again" mode and it was over.
I just think his confidence was so broken and he was SO unhappy with how things had worked out that there was no coming back from it in the NHL. |

Scott Darling on the Spittin Chiclets podcast says he broke his ankle in Charlotte after being sent to the AHL. That was when the org. just sent him home.
Says he also broke his hand this year. - BINGO!
The guy can't catch a break. - I Am The Breadman
His dad died earlier this year in what I think was an accidental drowning too. It's been an extremely rough year for the guy.
Always thought that he should have stayed with the Hawks organization. Just seemed with his past and everything he'd been through that at home in Chicago was the best fit for him. I argued with people til my face turned blue that the Hawks should have traded Crow and re-signed Darling so they could help fix their defense but a lot of people weren't for it because they loved Crow. Crow then couldn't stay healthy and Darling's life has spiraled outta control so I guess that turned out to be a wash |

As long as he's getting paid $6.25M per year from the Leafs for the next few years, he can afford to take his time. Maybe he'll show up as Cherry's replacement on Coaches Corner.

2 coaching Gods, fired 1 year apart. Maybe the coaches are over-rated? - powerenforcer
Add in Trotz - not fired, exactly, but not rehired.
And ponder what COULD have happened had they let Q go right after the 2018 season - might Trotz have come here? |

Colliton said they're still weighing some lineup decisions. Shaw seemed fine at the morning skate, but seven D remains an option.
I so hope 7D is not an option. TBL without Kucherov and their backup starting tonight. If we eff around and go with 7D (has this ever turned out well?) I'm going to throw something heavy. |

Interesting thought, but why would Toronto bite on that (other some glorious cap space) given need for D. Would they take Gus for Nylander?
We wouldn't take Gus for our Nylander... |

Saad to Montreal for Caufield and (our) 2020 2nd round pick. - DarthKane
Probably have to throw in Dach and Boqvist.

Saad is good at a lot of things, but not great at anything. Nylander is really good (not even great) at one thing. I’d rather ice a forward group consisting of 12 Saad clones than 12 Nylander’s. - Ogilthorpe2
Yes, but if you put both Nylanders on either side of Toews he would quit and solve a big problem. |

The Hawks need more 2 way forwards, not less. - Ogilthorpe2
Only if they want to beat Carolina and win playoff games. |

What is the point of dressing 7D regardless? Best 6 should be on the ice period. |

If Shaw cannot go and they play 7 dmen, this might be an opportunity to play Gus at LW. (Though long term I do not think that is in the best interest of Gus or the Hawks.)
ADB Stome Kane
Saad Toews Nylander
Gus Kampf Kubalik
Smith Dach Carpenter - -Doh-
We went through this last year. Gus was even asked about it in an interview. Short answer was, no.
JC will simply double shift Kane. |

The issue is with Shaw and The Drake injured, they only have 11 forwards. |

The most recent comp is Bobrovsky, he sighed for 7Y/$70M, cap hit $10/Y. He's 31.
Lehner is 28, was a Vezina finalist last year, and is having another remarkable season so far. He does have some baggage that Bob doesn't.
I'd speculate your going to have to go 6-7 years and something in excess of $8M per year. Would 6Y/$9M work? |

Any team that signs Lehner for that kind of term and money would be crazy. The past is relevant

Isn't there an available roster spot - just the perfect size for a game or two for Sikura, Wedin, Highmore.... |

But Saad needs to be resigned in 2 years. Nylander doesn't and he's been scoring more and his cap hit is slightly higher.
Just a thought. - RedRevenge
I hear what you're saying but imo if you are going to trade Saad then you continue on the youth movement without salary. No way i trade Saad this year since he has a year left on his contract unless the offer is too good to pass up.
As i said before the 2 guys i trade are Crawford and Gusto
And if Lehner doesn't sign an extension, I'd trade him to.
Hawks might be able to out do Boston (3 some year) and have 4 1st round picks |
