For those hoping that Hawks will give Babcock a call, a respectful, but pointed thread about how the players around the league view him (including in the replies some feelings from Chelios):

https://twitter.com/MarkF.../1198270969380581376?s=20

If our players in any way quit on JC b/c they didn't like how he was handling things, bringing in a guy like this might be a bigger disaster. I'd say particularly so for our developing players.

Babcock sounds like a real SOB.

Yeah, which is why I don't expect he'll be very willing to go elsewhere. Maybe he will decide to retire?

I could see him waiving his NTC at the TDL if the team is out of contention, if he is healthy and playing well, and if he wants a shot at another Cup. It will just be a temporary 3-4 month period out of town. After that who knows... retirement or a chance or extending with Chicago?

Why wouldn’t you want a condo in Chicago, great city, great restaurants, and maybe the best city in the country in the summer time. Whether he plays here or not, summer time in Chicago will be waiting.

Something has to happen here boys and girls, with Drake on IR, they have to make a move, cannot go with only twelve forwards. Kubalik seems to be responsible defensively, would like to see him on a line with Saad or Sikura....

I travel all over for work, best city in US. The high crime areas are segregated, every big city has them, but yes Chicago’s bad areas are real bad. Very simple, stay out of those areas and you will be in the best city in the country, bar none. San Francisco was another favorite of mine, but that opinion has now changed.

I agree the majority of the killings are in a few select neighborhoods. And also agree Chicago along the lakefront is beautiful in the summer.

Just be aware that other crime in Chicago is not limited to some select neighborhoods. Attached is a summary of crime in other areas that you won't hear on the 6 or 10 PM news or in the Trib or Sun Times. For your edification. Be careful when visiting Chicago.

The odds of something happening to an individual? Minuscule. Just be aware of what's going on around you.

I’d love for Stan to find a way to keep Lehner and Crawford beyond this season. Unless Crawford takes a significant pay cut I don’t see it happening.

Vancouver beats Washington in a shootout.

Over 1/4 into the season - Edmonton, Arizona, Vancouver are the top three in the Pacific - three teams that the conventional wisdom gave not much chance to make the playoffs.

That means the expected top three in the Pacific - SJ, VGK, Calgary - are at this point fighting for a wild card.

Along with, again at this point, Winnipeg, Nashville, Chicago in the Central.

Ain’t gonna be easy.

Bob doesn’t play with two $10.5 skaters.

Hawks can’t afford over $9 in goalies, I don’t think.

Not sure if they can afford 9.5M for goalies going forward. Will have to move several millions from other positions to pay for the goalies.

I’ve been very patient and trying very hard to not rant about this in fear of sounding too pessimistic...but here it goes:

DeBrincat and Strome....have been AWFUL this season. Horrendous. Hard to watch. If not for Kane their #s would better reflect just how awful they’ve been.

I see a lot of effort but zero results. They can’t shoot. They can’t pass. They can’t handle the puck in the simplest of situations. With the exception of ONE fluke game vs the Kings they can’t do jack poop in the Ozone unless Kane does all the work for them.

I see zero high end skills. NONE whatsoever. They both look like below average 3rd liners. Massive disappointments. About a week ago I went off on someone who suggested trading DeBrincat for the other Nylander. I was wrong. I’d make that trade in a heartbeat. And at this rate Schmaltz looks EMPHATICALLY better than Strome as a pure offensive talent.

Strome is weak on the puck. He’s slow. He makes countless stupid passes that lead to odd man rushes for the opponent.

And wtf happened to the accuracy of DeBrincats shot? Did he forget how to aim/shoot? He can’t keep the puck on his stick for a damn second without it fumbling and flopping around before he’s inevitable dispossessed by a faster more talented opponent. Awful. Just AWFUL.

I’m sick of this duo. Sick of their constant mediocre play. If there’s no improvement by the TDL I would look to move on from both.

Main thing for me is you gotta have speed and high end skill in this league if you wanna make it as a top 6/top PP unit caliber player. Cat and Strome have neither.

There...I feel much better now.

I live outside Toronto and have visited many cities in the U.S and the world and Chicago ranks right up there as one of my favorite. San Fran is also on my list.

Chicago has a murder problem - 550 last year, even if down dramatically from previous years, is way too many - especially since some too-high percentage are victims of stray bullets from drive-bys - too many of them children.

Chicago has a gun problem - a national problem. Illinois has a good (but not perfect) universal background check law on all gun sales.

Over 60% of guns used in Chicago shootings come from out of state - Indiana, Wisconsin, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi - states with much looser background checks on sales at gun shoes, or private sales. Lots of “straw-man” sales of guns that are brought into Chicago.

Time for a national universal background check law with no loopholes. Senate Majority Leader McConell is sitting on three bills passed by the House with no action for over a year. He won’t put anything up in the Senate that he’s not sure the President will sign.

Time for The Majority Leader to remember that Article 1 of the Constitution gives the Congress equal power with the branch of government established by Article 2.
