Really going to be tough to lose Greiss but no other way. If Sorokin works out it's all good.

Let’s be honest Greiss is a 32 yr old who spent most of his career as a backup. Love what he has done here don’t get me wrong but we’ve also seen in the past the more he plays the more his game slips a little. He is not the long term option whether Sorokin comes over or not. Plus I think with this staff and system then can turn any goalie into a top notch goalie

It’s funny I was thinking the other day about how lucky we are to have Lou and Barry. I think back to a couple of years ago when my buddy texted me from Vegas and said he was standing behind Weight in line to place a bet at one of the casinos and it was like two hours from game time. You think Barry would be doing that two hours before game time? Lol

This is true Vukota. Greiss has struggled being the full time #1 and will not be the long term #1. Isles need to go with Sorokin at this point.

Doug seemed more than happy to be the assistant coach.

First let’s get him over here. Then let’s se how he adjusts and plays on the smaller ice surface. I feel he’s talented and certainly is playing well in the KHL. Many Russian KHL stars have shat the bed in the NHL, no matter what position
There’s a reason for my reservation about him coming and how well he will do in the NHL however don’t kid yourself it has nothing to do with you being wrong. Which is pretty common.

Lastly I would love for him to come here and be an absolute star and help the Islanders.

Are you Russian because you have an infatuation which Russian players or is your Glory Hole In Brighten Beach?

Agreed on all counts. Excited to see him play if and when he comes but my expectations are level.

No way Barry uses his cell phone to place bets during the game

With the mug behind the hole exposed, I’m thinking your business is going to suffer greatly.

I would not mind them extending him though either... He certainly likes it here and it would allow Sorokin to start in b-port. Then you can move one of the other 2 if needed or be a complete moron and keep 3 goalies up like Garth

Just my guess, but I don't think Sorokin is coming over here to make 80k in the AHL

Exactly. Extend him two years if he would take it which he very well may. Not to confident with Varlamov hopefully that changes with Korn and Greco's training.

No way he is coming over to play in the AHL and somebody is going to over pay for Greiss in UFA so either way he is gone after the season imo

Funny thing Varlamov’s numbers were pretty damn good up until the last couple of games. He needs to be a little more consistent no doubt but to me Greiss is a career backup having a great season. They need that money to sign some of their own RFA’s and for at least a year or so Sorokin will be a cheap backup. They can’t afford to give Greiss 4-5 million a year he’ll get on the open market. Greiss is not in their long term plans and rightfully so.

I get that and to me Varlamov is kind of what he has been through his career. Inconsistent. That doesn’t equate to good when referring to goaltenders IMO. Like I said hopefully that changes as he gets more comfortable and maybe his training staff can harness that consistency eventually but as far as right now I’m not enamored with what I’m seeing. Greiss over the years has been pretty consistent minus when Weight was coach but what are we really saying there?😂
Hopefully he gets it together but to me even when Varlamov’s numbers were better in October he still looked a bit unsteady to me. Just my opinion. I get Greiss can’t take the load on as a starter but I’d rather have him as a 1B then Varlamov from what I’m seeing but like you said he’s not getting resigned for multiple reasons so this conversation is like pissing in the wind😂
