I doubt he can "fix" him. You'd have to train him to think faster and act better.
The better thing really will be to assess the pairings, and ideally move Ceci down to a 5/6 role where he is less pressured, and can process the game at his speed. - Monkeypunk
I think we might even see Rielly-Barrie together full time.. |

It's possible.
I'm pretty much a fan of empirical evidence - so until we see them together, I don't know.
I just have serious misgivings about taking two guys who seemingly have no interest nor ability to play effective defense, and then pairing them together against the best the opposition has to throw at us.
It just seems . . .bad. |

It's been well over 24....
Look at what Kieffer accomplished in 24 hours. |

So why is not moved down. Everyone can see the issue. |

I expect them to come out flying. Getting the 1st goal should be one of the main tasks tonight! |

Don't bring up that name in the Leafs thread, please and thank you.
March 13, 1996.
The Leafs acquire:
- a washed up Wendel Clark (although not as bad as his third stint herer)
- Matthieu (I do what i want with the puck, when I want, where I want) Schneider
- D J Smith
The Islanders acquire:
- Sean Haggarty
- Darby Hendrickson
So far, so good, amirite?
Oh and:
- Kenny Jonsson
1997 1st round pick (turned out to be 4th overall: Roberto Luongo) |

New coach, new evaluation. Dubas has said he thinks Ceci's been ok, so that could be a factor (I'm hoping that was more for the player's benefit than what he really thinks). |

Gotta love our leafs bloggers. We have two. Yet on a game day, the day after one coach is fired and a new one hired. And we still don’t have a blog yet. I’m sure once
Mikes done watching the sportsnet interviews and info about new lines etc. he will paraphrase and recap what we’ve already read and call it a blog. |

I remember. To be honest, I never thought Jonsson was the prize everyone made him out to be. But that pick! |

Me too. I hope it's not his ego for bringing him here and spending that kind of money on him. Personally, I think any decent AHL defensemen could replace Ceci at any time. Hard to make that move optically after paying him like a top 4 guy though. |

They'll be skating. If they're flying they will no doubt be considered offside as they're not in physical contact with the blueline. |

That's the thing. His salary. If Cody Ceci was making $800k and playing as a third pairing guy, he'd be just fine.
I get what people see in him when I watch him. He can skate. Not great, but a little above average. He's built well - he looks sturdy - but he doesn't use it. He is a decent passer when he has time to process the move. I think he has a decent shot, but we rarely see it.
So he has the tools to be a tolerable 3/4 guy, but I don't think he has the Hockey IQ to be one.
He's gone after this year. |
