Borje is another guy.
He might help you out here....but he is a guy who likely wouldn't even sign the guy for over 4 million. |

Jeremy Bracco found out about Keefe’s promotion while checking Twitter at the rink. Said he credits Keefe for much of his success, says you always know where you stand with Keefe and he’s easy to talk to about hockey and life.

Here is a perfect example. Young players like Bracco respond well to coaches like Keefe. You may not like it but suck it up because it is the way it is. - Santo_44

from all the scouting report commentary - seems like Bracco would be a natural replacement for Nylander - when Dubas trades him
- BorjeFan4Ever
Bracco would actually help this PP today pretty tremendously.
He'd get eaten alive 5v5 though....He has to work on that this year but he has taken a lot of strides.
He has to decide if he wants to be a 2016-2019 Thomas Vanek or a more complete player. |

I even said if they want to complain about change then do it.
But if you want the Leafs to be successful then get over it. |

Read this in the TSN article. Backchecking?!
"The hallmark of a Keefe team, according to Cousins, is that “he wants the team to play as a five-man unit on the ice and have forwards backchecking through the middle of the ice so the defence can stand up - Aaron_85[opponents] at the blueline.”
Sounds a lot like what Brind'amour does.
Defense has the green light to go 100% of the time. Forwards have to be aware and make sure they cover for the D when they jump. |

I would have offered him a 5 x 5.25.
5.50 max. - Arctic_AARDVARK
too low in my opinion...
I maybe wrong... but I think the "comps" at the time were 6.2 - 6.5...
for me its never been about the actual dollar number... its more about the perception that the player is left with... "I got 7.0"... so I'm better than so and so... they needed to keep that contract down not for the CAP hit itself, but for the roadmap that it laid out for Marner and Matthews (lesser degree for Matthews).
overpaid by .5M is about right. |

you are correct - I'm another guy. a Boomer... an old guy...
I don't "appreciate" snowflakes unless they are on a mountainside.
I don't think Nylander is hugely overpaid based on the comps.
I also don't believe that any rational person can say that it is a "value" contract or "great" contract - 'cause he's played a grand total of 20+ games after the abortion of a season that we are all supposed to ignore last year.
should be pretty clear. |

from all the scouting report commentary - seems like Bracco would be a natural replacement for Nylander - when Dubas trades him
- BorjeFan4Ever
While Nylander is more of a perimeter player, it's more perceived. He will engage when he's the best option. I think you know that I do like Nylander, but I recognize that he has shortcomings in his physical play and is lazy on the backcheck.
I'm of the opinion that a lot of what Nylander does on the ice is somewhat cerebral in that it plays to his strengths. He's not a physically strong nor large player, so getting involved in a battle of strength is one where he's not coming out with the puck and is likely disadvantaged positionally as a result of the scrum. So instead of scruming, he tries to pull the puck out of a scrum.
If you have possession of the puck in the offensive zone, but there are defenders between you and your target (the net, a teammate), do you force the play/puck there, or do you hold the puck looking for an opening? Hint: It's a smarter play to hold the puck. Your teammates should be moving with you to create room for themselves to receive the puck and progress the play. Hyman did this well. Johnsson doesn't. I like Johnsson, but I don't think he reads the formulating play that well.
But you get in the offensive zone and look for an opening - hold the puck to not turn it over, and look for an opening to the net or an opening to a team mate in a more opportune position. Not to directly compare them, but the reason we like Mitch in these cases is that at his best he'll force the play into a more dangerous area, and while it increases the risk of a turnover, it also creates a dangerous opportunity in about half of the cases. Optically Mitch looks better and Willy looks scared, but really Willy is safer and Mitch is impatient and risky (Mitch is Maverick and Willy is Iceman?).
Where we can all take umbrage is the fact that there's no excuse for lazy back checking and lazy play without the puck. That is probably "glory" driven, and will ideally change if he can learn that better play without the puck contributes to more "glory" opportunities.
Bracco is a small permiter player who is a good passer. I don't think you get much more out of him than that. |

Bracco responds well to Keefe.
Datsyuk responds well to Babcock.
now let's see.... which type of player do we prefer responding well to a coach....?
a fringe NHL PP specialist, or an all-star SC winning legend?
