Also guys, why is it always laziness and no effort? What if the players were actually playing and buying into Babs' system more and more, but it actually made the team worse?
Not sure why just because these players are young they are all of a sudden lazy. You are all aware that these guys have worked harder and more diligently at being good at hockey their whole lives than anyone here has done at anything. Ever. |

something like a Rielly, Kap and prospect for Jones and anderson
or something - senstroll
or Nylander, Barrie and Johnsson ... for Jones and Anderson....
that way you could have two "top 2" defenders...
not that the team needs to add defenders.. . |

actually, yes... would be a perfect deal for both teams
Edmundson (.5 retained) for Barrie
both are FreeAgents at years end... both could use a fresh start.
nevermind, Edmundson 6'3"... somewhere in Dubas' spreadsheet he's got a toggle set to exclude anyone over 5'10" - BorjeFan4Ever
Barrie's not a great fit. He wouldn't replace Hamilton on the top PP unit, and if you use him on the 2nd unit instead of Gardiner then you've really got no reason to play Gardiner much at all. |

Complain all you want that you hat how it has changed for all I care but learn to accept it and adapt to the changes for the better of the team. - Santo_44

Muzzin was dialed in. He’s pretty much been our best Dman this year. Muzz is a leader for sure.
I meant the star players (Matthews/Marner/Nylander) quit on babs, and they have too much pull. Mo and John knew this, and told Babs he has to change. He probably said “uh no,” so shanny fired his ass. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Babcock's mantra and ability to be inflexible just became too much. Honestly, all I see are coaches with success who have a more fluid way of coaching.
I get how being confident in your convictions can also be a benefit but it cost him his job too. |

It’s not that we can’t stop, it’s just that we won’t stop
When the analytics cult quits creaming their pants every time he carries the puck across the line, then we’ll stop pushing back the other way.
I get your take, man. But a lot of us don’t think he deserves that contract, and not just 500k overpaid.. - Arctic_AARDVARK

They absolutely were.
You can see it in the team's transition to more and more shots from the point, from the perimeter, trying to cut down on transition chances against but not letting guys commit to the center of the ice offensively as much. It hamstrung the offense and, honestly, the problem was always in-zone defense more than transitional anyway. |

Jeremy Bracco found out about Keefe’s promotion while checking Twitter at the rink. Said he credits Keefe for much of his success, says you always know where you stand with Keefe and he’s easy to talk to about hockey and life.
7:18 PM - 20 Nov 2019
Here is a perfect example. Young players like Bracco respond well to coaches like Keefe. You may not like it but suck it up because it is the way it is. |

Agree 100% Aard. I find it "cringe-worthy" enough my Hawks have a 1 million perimeter Nylander to contend with. But, of all the Leaf players, I would least want nYLANDER. iS HE TALENTED?...YUP. wILL HE PUT UP SIOME POINTS?...YUP. Damn caps lock...ok...fixed.
Anyway....For what he brings...and more importantly, what he lacks...compete level, grit, board-work, back-check, 60 minute effort. Npe, 7 million wayyy too much, especially on a team with no lack of scoring anyway. It is 7 million the Leafs couls surely have used elswhere, on a gritty winger or two or a D-man. I see a lot of leaf games here in Canada, and Nylander has to be the softest guy on the ice 90% of the time. I would rather the Charmin soft Nylader we have on the Hawks and save the 6 million, over William.
But, to each their own.... |

that was so "Babcock"...so yesterday.
can't be any good at all
I'm actually really surprised that no one commented at how Vegas has a pretty pedestrian defense core, they aren't the most mobile - and they seem to do okay.
oh well...the team has spoken apparently - Babcock "bad", ...
I wonder how long before some portion of the media sees an opportunity by picking Keefe apart - not saying they should... but the shiny new shoes only stay shiny for a while.

Yeah Babs was pretty horrible for the media to deal with. That is no secret.
And no good? Stop making stuff up plenty of people on here are happy with what Babs has done for the team in his early days. |

Read this in the TSN article. Backchecking?!
"The hallmark of a Keefe team, according to Cousins, is that “he wants the team to play as a five-man unit on the ice and have forwards backchecking through the middle of the ice so the defence can stand up [opponents] at the blueline.” |
