He hasnt looked near as good since returning from being sent down IMO.

Its November. They played great against the Devs but the Devs goalie was lights out.

NJ had like 40 blocked shots or something stupid that game. They did a fantastic job of boxing out and maintaining really good gap control. Not recognizing a pretty well rounded defensive effort is folly

Yeah the Pens shots and shot attempts were double or more than the Devs...HDSC's more than double of the Devs.

Rino's issue with that game was that there no traffic in front of the net even though there was at times. There was no second or third chances that game. Like you said, boxing out was done well but also Blackwoods rebound control was outstanding.

You could always make the argument as well, that if the Devs had 40 (or a high amount of) blocked shots then there was an awful lot of shot attempts that weren't directly at goalie.

That was a rough night for SImon too. Only a minute more than Blandisi.

No, the Blueger line was just the 3rd line. (Which it still is no matter how they list it). ZAR-Blueger-Tanev was together a long time.

It’s pretty common for callups to work off that adrenaline and then fizzle. Hopefully him knowing he’s going right back regardless isn’t affecting his drive.

Can Brodie (just asking because of Ek’s article) help this team? And if they are asking for one of the back-ups can you force them to take JJ? Brodie is a UFA, so giving up an asset they need should come with the Pens being able to have a demand as well.

I only caught bits and pieces of the game last night. What did we learn?

Schultz is not good defensively but good offensively. I think we knew that already. What is changing is, is he worth the defensive lapses or not.

Despite all the arguments the Islanders are a poor puck control team that wins with high shooting percentages and outstanding goal tending. They actually can play good offense when they must. I believe they won most of the analytic numbers.

I don't think Lafferty as been bad, just maybe not a guy I'd use in a shutdown roll. I'm guessing if Hornqvist is ready to go, Lafferty will take Blandisi's spot.

I'd probably try Simon there for now. That line's job is to suppress opposing chances, create possession, and not really be relied on to score.

The only guys on the team with a worse points per 60 at ES are Bjugstad and Riikola, so Schultz isn't even providing offense at ES. His strengths are essentially a PP guy that's good at moving the puck in transition.

Speaking of Blandisi, that was an awesome backhand pass he made to Galchenyuk right in front of the net, that Galch ALMOST tipped in. The guy simply can't BUY a goal.
