About 80 seconds into the 2nd period, MM had a chance to cover the puck and slow the game down. He kicked a really dribbling puck to the stick-side corner. I was wondering why he did that with a strong forecheck on his D. I right away figured it was his confidence, having coughed up that laugher that lost the last game, but who knows what I know about his game or if that's a strategy passed down from the coaches. I'll be damned if that shift didn't end up with a puck in his net at 17:21. I know that people will blow their tops for me criticizing him, but I immediately thought he should have stopped play in the first minute. The team went into damage control for a painstaking bit, and NYI scored. He just looked nervous when he did that.
Peleck(sp) is a VERY good defender, every time I've seen him.
Kahun belongs in the lineup.
Galchenyuk will score if he plays like this.
Tanev is on pace to set career highs.
Pettersson has looked a little shaky. |

So Hornqvist with Sid? I've always a him back with Bjugstad on the 3rd since they were so effective together, but McCann as looked so good I'd like to see him at 3C. Not sure where to put Hornqvist though. - Tojo.
I've always liked Horny with Sid but I think Horny's lack of speed has become an issue. But he is the perfect net-front screener / deflector that that line could use (and every line for that matter). |

He definitely should have covered that but they had a chance to reset. He’s been good tonight. |

Shots against, shot attempts against ,goals against, expected goals against , PK%. ...I consider them all a gauge of defensive play and I'm sure I'm not thinking of others right now
EDIT: I forget scoring chances against - MattStrat
Even just look at Fenwick against and expected goals against. All those stays ar tracked for offense and defense, but most people just focus on the overall %.
So a guy like Gudbranson will have good defensive numbers, but a bad overall because his offense is so poor, but he's still good defensively. Or a guy like Simon was so divisive on the top line because half his value was defensive.

Wow, nice play by Tanev! Really strong on the forecheck. I think McCann buries that if it doesn't hit the skate first. |

You're welcome. I don't fully grasp those heat charts, but I've seen 25% described as insanely high and Marino is better than that. |

Yeah, most guys just give a standard check and block along the boards, but Tanev is dogged in his pursuit of the puck and wins it. |

If this Kahun-McCann-Tanev line keeps tearing it up, I think it would be a mistake to try and pull it apart to put one or two of them with Sid/Geno.
Having that line as your 3rd line, clicking like that is great. Leave that line be and try to plug the other holes with guys like Bjugstad, Horny, Rust, Simon, Galch.

Guentzel Crosby Lafferty/Tanev
Reese/Galchenyuk Malkin Rust
Kahun McCann Lafferty/Tanev
Reese/Galchenyuk Bjugstad Horny
Edit
Simon is no where to be found for a reason. If we move chucky for more help on d, maybe simon is useful. I cant stand him honestly. |

I agree on keeping that line together. They look great
Why not Kahun potentially with Sid and Jake? I’m not over Galchenyuk either yet. Is he still over supporting the puck? Yes but that’s also on the coach. He’s creating, looks good on the PP. if he wasn’t in front on the PP that puck doesn’t get over to Rust. His play has improved and he deserves credit for it |
