I’d take on Backes contract to make the salaries work, but the Bruins would need to add a 1st. |

I agree with you, but I tend to stay shy of telling another team’s fan base that they should fire their coach. Not to mention, I watch them, but not nearly as close as all of you.
Except santo, that wannabe tanner guy doesn’t even watch the games!

Fair. I haven't missed a game yet this year. Guess you're not that out to lunch for a Boston fan.... |

thank you for saying it;
Our PP really sucks, you know what will work? Trying the exact same thing over and over again. - PatC80

if babcrotch wants to split PP time relatively evenly he should consider moving matthews to pp2 with nylander
im a genius - daeth
I would be in favour of going totally old school. 1a 1b. JT line with Reilly and Ceci (or Spezza?), and Matthews line with Muzzin and Barrie. Easy peasy. |

You give a 21 year old kid a 50 million dollar contract and you're blown away he would need to be told to go earn it? - joel878
There are plenty of young players that are very rich and also very motivated. They just aren't on the Leafs. |

Any coach with half a brain would have went to this approach when the PP started struggling a year ago. If you manage to defend the first wave, the second will get you.
With Babcock, it's like trying that would be an admission that he was wrong, and his ego just can't take it. |

I personally knew of a few of them in another Canadian market at the time from a friend who was playing with them.
It's just like saying all 21 year olds should spend their student loans wisely. Well yeah, but not all of them do. It's called being 21. |

I feel like just because the league is trending towards certain ways of power play structure, like 4F1D and over utilizing the first unit, every team feels like they should follow suit to have success. Your players and systems should really dictate whether either, both, or one or the other is necessary, not what the ‘other teams’ are doing. Although, if you do have a very successful 1st unit, which the Leafs do not, then you should 100% over utilize it. There’s a lot less energy exerted on the PP than 5 on 5. I have absolutely zero evidence to back that up, but it just seems self evident. |

Personally I'd rather have Debrusk than Nylander on my team.
Same for Heinen over Johnsson.
Looking at increasing chances on a SC win - not points per player. - MaximusAurelius
Debrusk has a real nasty streak to him that is good, especially for a young guy. |

So it's all Babcocks fault they can't motivate themselves then? Coach and guidance councillor? This is why character is important in players a team drafts.
Please tell me, who are those other young guys, and how's their team doing? |

Do you have trouble reading? I never said it was Babcocks fault, I said it was his responsibility. If players aren't doing their part, it's his responsibility to get through to them, hold them accountability, elevate the standard. Whatever it may be. But it's his department, it's his responsibility. If the opposite is sitting back, throwing your hands up and saying these kids just aren't doing it... That's not acceptable.
Yeah, no. I'm not going to be the guy who airs people's dirty laundry on the internet. I will say one has been traded, and the team is still not doing well. Do some research, challenges reeling in young talents are not unheard of, and the NHL seems to have way less of them than other sports. |

I agree, but he didn't... Barrie is an upgrade on Gardiner and should be used as an offensive d-man, not asked to change his game and learn how to be a stay-at-home defenseman..
That's like asking Gauthier to center the 1st PP unit. - PatC80
The goat on pp1?
Why not, it couldn’t hurt. |
