Josh Anderson is a priority....nylander straight up i would offer.. columbus would probably say no... - CarlitoBrigante
This is the kind of logic that made David Clarkson a thing, except this time we want to throw Willie away for it? Anderson has 1 goal and 1 assist ffs.
There are ways to make a lineup heavier without having to flick away a solid asset to make it happen. |

name 3 top6 forwards that were put on waivers last 5 seasons and not picked up by another nhl team. - MaximusAurelius
Why do I have to name top 6 forwards?
Petan is not a top 6 forward. He is a depth player that is playing in the lineup because of injuries. He is signed for just under 800K so they can use him as an emergency call up the next few years.
What is your problem with that? |

how did this escalate to only "top 6 forwards"?
Oh wait, are we ignoring facts again for the sake of arguing with ourselves? You know, again? |

What's the criteria for this statement? If I'm talking about a 4th line, I'm talking about 4th deployment at 5v5 play - not including any special teams play.
If that's the case, then this statistic you cite seems way off. Assuming that Nate Thompson is the Canadiens' 4th line centre, at 5v5 play, his line has been on the ice for the following:
1GF against the Capitals
1GF against the Bruins
1GF against the Coyotes
1GF against the Leafs
1GF against the Stars
1GF against the Hurricanes
BTW, based on the production and deployment of the lines, that is the 4th line. - Monkeypunk
Thanks Monkey, i am dumb, and missread the article. my apologies and thanks for the correction.
"How’s their depth? As solid as it gets. Montreal’s eight defencemen and the fourth line of Nick Cousins, Nate Thompson and Jordan Weal have combined for 21 goals and 57 points. The rest of the team has combined for 49 goals and 112 points." |

First of all both the coach and GM are heavily involved in who is up and down. Anyone denying that the coach doesn't have a heavy influence on who makes the team and who doesn't is wrong. There is nothing wrong with the fact Petan has bounced up and down....in fact IMO they gave him the two years so he could be a player they can sneak through waivers this year.
Secondly, Petan is in the NHL right now.
Your original comment was saying Petan shouldn't be on the 3rd line and blamed Dubas for it.
Now answer this...Who decides who plays where in the lineup? - Santo_44
not what I said at all... Petan was called back up when Marner was injured I believe... who calls him up?
why not call up Engvall before hand?
I believe that's on Dubas - as he's trying create a market for Petan.
you disagree... you haven't said why.
Why Petan is on the 3rd line... I don't know.
Why he's the first recall is on Dubas.

you were criticizing babcock for putting petan on the third line.
so the logical deduction there is that you see petan as a top6 fw. |

No, David Pastrnak falls into the group of players you don't trade.
Yes we were all subjected to years of everyone saying Kessel would never win a cup and then left here and won two.
Don't be stupid, a young player who's 3rd on the team in scoring and has already scored two 60 point seasons has value and is a quality asset.
Why don't we trade kapanen for Matt Martin while we're at it... |

A few games back, Leafs scored the OT winning goal. Everybody on the bench was jumping and screaming, except Willie - he just stood there without a smile and stared...!
Anyone remember?

I will answer that and it is very simple.
Petan played 1 of 4 games after Marner was injured.
They don't need to bring up a guy they see potential in just to send him up and down. That is why they have guys like Petan...it sucks for him but thats his place in the NHL.
Next answer. He is on the 3rd line because of the type of player he is. Babcock 100% uses his 4th line for D zone starts. Petan isn't the type of player for that role.
Now there are 3 forwards injured. There is a spot on that 3rd line to play a different role. Babs playes Spezza and Petan on that 3rd line or not at all....and it is obvious to me WHY he does. |

Petan is not a remote issue with the Leafs, and anyone saying so is delusional.
What IS a problem however, is Petan playing 14-15 min a night when Tavares and Matthews are averaging around 18-19. |

Josh Anderson is from Burlington, probably a leafs fan growing up, saves you about $5 million on the cap, is exactly what this team needs, is a decent skater, finally some protection for our stars and can stand in front of the net during the PP, which nobody does right now..
take the cap room and get better defense on your team....
we dont need nylander or more like him....this team is full of the same types of shinny players who dont hit or want to get hit and thats THE MAJOR PROBLEM ... |

You can get players from the Toronto area that play hard without giving up one of your best players. |
