"Holl had his chance and he blew it"
- Mike Babcock - Scabeh
Holl made that one bad pass in practice.. It's back to being a healthy scratch again... Had a good run, I guess.
If only Dubas could teach Holl how to pass, right? That's on the GM, it's not the coaches job to coach players.. |

I think - and I'll stand corrected if someone knows better - that Engvall was naturally a winger who they startred trying to convert to centre last season as a guy who can challenge the Goat for 4th line C duties. - Monkeypunk
Yup.
He has been playing Center for over a year now...played a bit in Europe as well.
FO% is at 50% in the A as well. |

So the Rielly - Holl pairing lasted half of a practice?
Way to change things up, Babs.... - PatC80
that's to confuse the other team looking at their practices.

thats not what i mean, its the players. the types they have there. not the types that are going to carry you far when the top guns are not working.
then again, its a question of philosophy i guess. the habs have 3 basically 2nds lines and a 4th that could be a 3rd line. even lines that can score and back check/ play defence. i love this team make up. our def, i dunno if there is a faster skating back end... not the best or most skilled back end, but man can they skate and the fwds support really well.
i loved spezza. i would have taken him on my team anytime... but to ask him to do a 3rd line role.. i dunno.
edit. if bergy was up for it, id kick the tires on pecca from mtl. that guy deserves to play in the NHL. - munky123
Well they have their 1st line winger, 3rd line center and 3rd line winger out right now...There are some players in spots they shouldn't be and Spezza is one.
I am curious to see how Engvall does. I think he is better than Spezza at both ends of the ice.

no, its 21 goals as a line. 53 points from the 4th line this year
49 goals and 112 pointseason for the rest of the team - munky123
What's the criteria for this statement? If I'm talking about a 4th line, I'm talking about 4th deployment at 5v5 play - not including any special teams play.
If that's the case, then this statistic you cite seems way off. Assuming that Nate Thompson is the Canadiens' 4th line centre, at 5v5 play, his line has been on the ice for the following:
1GF against the Capitals
1GF against the Bruins
1GF against the Coyotes
1GF against the Leafs
1GF against the Stars
1GF against the Hurricanes
BTW, based on the production and deployment of the lines, that is the 4th line. |

Naw, he didn't say that, but he did have Rielly paired with Holl yesterday at practice, which a lot of people thought was a good idea, even if, just to try something new..
The thought of Babs making a change, just made him way to nervous and fearful that it might actually work..

just so that I can understand modern day thinking...
who puts a player on waivers? and who recalls players, signs them to contracts?
I always believed that to be the GM... guess I was wrong. |

I think he's including all players that skated on the 4th line at one point or another, including Suzuki

Apart fromt the Coach vs GM debate - it seems obvious this team needs a few trades.
Any (realistic suggestions) on players Leafs should target?
Potentially the players below could be available in the right trade I guess:
- Josh Anderson
- Lawson Crouse
- Mattias Ekholm
- Brandon Saad
? - MaximusAurelius
Josh Anderson is a priority....nylander straight up i would offer.. columbus would probably say no... |

Maybe?
I'm starting to think maybe Max is actually Mike Babcock.. They both love Hyman, they both pretend to be ok with changes.. They both like hockey.

Should I bother staying up tonight? If I show up will the Leafs show up?

First of all both the coach and GM are heavily involved in who is up and down. Anyone denying that the coach doesn't have a heavy influence on who makes the team and who doesn't is wrong. There is nothing wrong with the fact Petan has bounced up and down....in fact IMO they gave him the two years so he could be a player they can sneak through waivers this year.
Secondly, Petan is in the NHL right now.
Your original comment was saying Petan shouldn't be on the 3rd line and blamed Dubas for it.
Now answer this...Who decides who plays where in the lineup? |
