I think he's confident in the team.. It's just human nature though.. We always look for someone to blame.. If/when Babs is let go, Dubas just happens to be the next person that people will put this on. - PatC80
true...
but in this case - whether Babcock is let go or not... Dubas IS just as culpable.
Dubas owns the roster assembly.
Dubas owns the CAP "situation"
Dubas owns the make-up of the feeder team roster
so whether Babego stays or goes - none of this changes. |

Here is a long drawn out...indepth looks at the Leafs (and League)
https://www.pensionplanpu...nece-systems-scoring-down
The shots are there! The zone time is there! The Leafs are way, way to the right of almost the entire NHL by just shots for. And the single, most overwhelming component of Expected Goals of any kind is volume of shots. They very obviously need to improve defensively somehow because they allow too much by any measure. It’s trite and just false to suggest that reduced offensive quality is the only problem.
I see the system this team began this season with as an attempt to tune the Leafs just a little that unfortunately met a situation that distorted the results out of the acceptable range. A re-tune is very much needed because the plan didn’t work. There is no question about that. But it wasn’t unreasonable in theory, and the results look worse than the system changes can account for.
But anyways, watching the games its easy to see there is a different system in play and its not working well. Its possible the League called an audible and the way the Leafs expected the season to play out and thier adjustments to last season issues is blowing up.
so imo, if you have to pick someone to blame, so far its Dubas/Babs/other coaches.

and a pick or? - HealthyScratch6
oh for sure...
I suggested yesterday Barrie to Vegas for Subban and Hague |

Apart fromt the Coach vs GM debate - it seems obvious this team needs a few trades.
Any (realistic suggestions) on players Leafs should target?
Potentially the players below could be available in the right trade I guess:
- Josh Anderson
- Lawson Crouse
- Mattias Ekholm
- Brandon Saad

the fact that the person admits to have/carrying a blackberry tells you not only that they are a "boomer" ... but a failed one at that...
someone that can be paged and beeped and interrupted ... man that is so passe!
I mean - that's nothing at all like getting a hundred text messages, or twitter notifications or facebook notifications or instagram notifications...
nothing at all alike... |

Yep.
He’s been better defensively 5V5 than Matthews and Marner too.
Fans bust a nut when Matthews or marner make a back check play every 20 games but don’t realize Nylander is the best at it. - Santo_44

Sorry but it is true
I'd show video evidence but someone did that and all they got in response was a very poor video edit of absolutely nothing with a silly song playing in the background. |

It's easier to fire the coach and Dubas can even hide behind the "I wasn't the one that hired Babcock" shield. It's just a natural reaction, once the coach is let go, all eyes turn to the GM if they continue to struggle.
I do feel that this team will play better with a new coach/voice in the room.. |

well if you are saying that nylander is great defensively, then that's the most obvious conclusion.

No its not
Some people can watch a game and be unbiased.
Also, some are willing to say that they cant see and process all that happens in a game to be able to really say what is a good defensive player and what actually shows up on the bottom line. I am fine saying I am not perfect and using data helps me wash away a lot of nonsense I used to think was important
Others like yourself think you are infallible and choose to take pot shots and make comments like never watches the games.
