So this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but here goes.
There are no living Canadian WWI vets.
Very few WWII vets.
So the whole "defending our freedom" line is not really relevant anymore.
We joined the war in Afghanistan because 19 Saudi Arabians, backed by Saudi money, committed terrorist attacks on the US.
Our military actions are due to military and economic ties with the US.
My freedom was never in jeopardy. - Atomic Wedgie
Maybe yours isn't but there are countless people who's freedom was.
And if the Allies didn't prevail, what would your freedom look like? |

The poppy is to honour WW1. - aminnes
Incorrect.
It is to honour all vets. |

What? Not caring.
Pretty sure everybody hear knows how many different things that could be applied to. - bobbyisno1
Some seem confused.
The poppy thing specifically. Who knows what a persons reason is for not wearing one. Half of these people come from war torn countries, I've known someone (white) who doesnt wear a poppy because it's a reminder for them of losing a child on deployment, and they honour that child every day all year long. That's their personal choice, not mine. And I don't have to understand it either.
It's easy to throw a rock without knowing someone's story. It's even easier to understand that it's none of your business in the first place. |

It just is a fact that a country can only handle so many immigrants before there is a negative impact on its society. |

I realize my writing was muddled here.
I am grateful for the sacrifices of WWI and wWII vets.
Hell yes, I wear a poppy.
But for the younger generations, it's harder for them to see 5he connection.
We need to help them make the connection, but I am willing to cut them some slack in the meantime. |

then start (frank)ing and having babies FFS or else we will have to keep bringing immigrants every year, it's ALL your fault. |
|
|
|
Correct. Just as we are subjected to people like you who tell them what to say.
Fun isn't it? - aminnes
If saying mind your own business, which I'm sure equates to me saying don't say anything at all... Is equal to me telling you what to say, I mean... (frank) me. You need more help than you're gonna get off of a hockey forum. Enjoy your day. 👍 |

Very true.
But one could say that there were threats to Canada post world trade that could have affected your way of life. Not necessarily your freedom within canada.
Most canadian military actions lately are to preserve life in foreign countries, but also those same soldiers will be who fights for Canadas freedoms if ever challenge.
Now where did i put those mnms? |

My family is small. Even my extended family when you get into uncles and so on. We don't have a huge history of military service; my father was in a Naval Academy and my grandfather did serve in WW2. So I'm not particularly affected by it emotionally or through any form of familial history.
I have always taken Remembrance Day as not just a way to recognize those who fought and those who died, but also the families and descendants for those who were affected. There are families who gave so much more and were so heavily affected by the impacts of the war that to this day descendants still feel it.
There will come a day when time has progressed so far from the great wars that Remembrance Day will have less meaning than it does now, but I think for that to happen, the impact to those alive and still affected, will have to pass through at least another generation or two.

I hate the argument that we bring in too many immigrants, our (frank)ing economy depends on it, businesses are closing due to lack of personal. |

I went through three this year.
I suppose that makes me open to some hick thinking I'm a white immigrant who is ungrateful for the sacrifices made by the military men and women of the country who accepted me.
Or I'm from Nova Scotia and my poppy is just sat in my truck about to stick in my ass when I jump in later...
But I mean yeah sure, judge away. Or people could just mind their (frank)ing business either way. But it's 2019 and the average cat just can't help themselves. Especially if you live in Alberta... |

Well that or people will need to accept we cannot keep growing our economy, which would be a pretty bad idea in the capitalist world we live in. |

well the leafs are out of the playoffs group this morning, this should bring some urgency for those who thought it was going to be easy this year. unless they think they can do what St-louis did last year - Symba007
The position they're in is nothing like St. Louis last year.
Also, I'd rather them deal with adversity than have an easy path to the playoffs.
Hopefully it's a big wake up call in the room.

Such as?
Ive heard that because the locals arent reproducing enough, the country needs immigrants for the workforce and sustained population.

Business are closing cause the rents are to high and people can't afford employees anymore.
Not to mention hydro, wait for the carbon tax. |
