I’m not comparing Reinhart to Pasternak. Leon was taken one pick after. 18 year old Pegullaville even called Leon being better. Why can’t a GM who was known for his scouting acumen make the pick ? Heck even Chirelli picked Leon of Bennett
- Swedish_Jesus

Can we also remember who Leon is playing with, not saying he can’t cut it without mcd, but I wonder if his numbers are the same in Buffalo, I’d think they’d take a hit.

So we have a abundance of D-man, we have some puck movers, all of them skate pretty good, what one gets you the most in a trade. Can any of them pull of 2 forwards that can put the puck in the net and what would we need to add. Don't really want to move are 1st next year, sounding like it could be a deep draft.
- Buff36

If you want two impact forwards I don’t think any of our available dmen get that return, the only one I’d think would be close is Montour, and I don’t see botts trading him.
Id say the one with the highest value is still 55.

I'm still believing:
I think we are. Better than:

Ottawa
Detroit
Montreal
Florida - even
Columbus
Caroilina- even
NY rangers
Nj devils.

Pittsburgh isnt the old Pittsburgh
Crosby might be having groin surgery.

Top heavy conference in my opinion

Almost to the point of pulling a Boston Trade, what would Dahlin get us.

To be fair, the Sabres are on pace for 96 points, which is 6 points above your line.

So regardless of optics Botterill is exceeding what you “needed” him to be at to this point

Defence corps looks a lot better. If we could age Mitts and Cozens 2 years each that would go a long way.

Before the draft Murray said draisaitl reminds him of jagr

Devine said reinhart is the best playmaker hes seen in 10-15 years

I like reinhart, and think he will continue to get better. Id rather have jagr. Its an interesting comparison because both are playing with the respective 1 and 2 of the next draft.

Obviously eichel does not equal mcdavid

When you take over a job with no talent and no assets to acquire talent it’s a tough gig.
- Swedish_Jesus

It is, no doubt.

Yet, on the NHL Roster; Eichel, Sam, ROR, Kane and Risto were all here, complimentary players in McCabe, along with a bunch of misfits, including Girgs, Larson, Okposo, Ullmark, Scandella, Bogo

Now they have, Eichel, Sam, Skinner, Dahlin, Risto(?), Montour as the core. Complimentary pieces in Mojo, Miller & McCabe, up and comers in VO (Murray), Mitts, Joker, Pilut and then a bunch of misfits, including Girgs, Larson, Okposo, Ullmark, Scandella, Bogo,

He HAS added no doubt, no doubt indeed, most if which is on an overloaded blueline.
I like most of his moves, especially lately...just wish there were more.
He has a fair amount of work remaining.

He got a good player there. If you're going to make a point, make it about Nylander, not a guy with 15 points in 17 games
- jcragcrumple

So if the oilers took Eichel or McDavid, all is well they still got a great player ? Common man you’re a smart guy don’t feed me that bs.

Sam is a great player, you don’t throw a season away for a “good” player. Heck Detroit would hang up the phone if you offered Sam for Larkin. I’d even take William Nylander over Sam.

Instead of 36 points he probably has 25.

I would not.

I'm also not worried about whether a player taken afterwards is better than one taken sooner. The metric I'm worried about is accumulating useful talent.

Like i said, if you want to burn Murray for a pick, go for Nylander. Reinhart is a good player.

Philadelphia "threw away" a season for Nolan Patrick. poop happens, Sam is good. All this does is seek to absolve JB for his mediocre forwards.

Give me more excuses for him

Dude, come on!
I like alot of your posts, this one is absolutely crazy talk.

If he turns out to be half of what his reviews boast of, they have a beast.
He's 19..nineteen!

I know your post is about what they could get for him to help the team, I get it, but would you have traded Dennis Potvin, Larry Robinson, Bobby Orr...you get the point. Hell No!

Botts has more than enough assets to make 2 trades for significant forwards without sacrificing probably the biggest piece of the future. Those trades are packages of players, prospects, draft picks and holding Cap.

Or 10, I think it would depend if they put him at center or wing with Jack, with our lack of wingers it’s possible he’s not even close to the player he is today if he would have played 2c for us rather than riding shotgun with mcd. Just a thought, hard to compare players on different teams.

So this brings up a good point of discussion,
Would anyone consider a trade of Risto for Nylander straight up?

I'd consider it for sure. Makes a lot of sense, but the non-hockey stuff makes no sense, so it's hard to imagine.

When you have top 10 picks you should be, top 2 definitely. Draisaitl is a different kind of player. Whats your defenition of useful talent? Nylander is in the NHL. Would you have traded nylander for sergachev?

Since neither of those picks were made by botteril theres no absolve to seek there but I agree its on him for fielding the same forward group sans a rookie that he didnt draft and johansson(both good so far).

Leon is elite. Watch more Edmonton games and you’ll see that. Living in Canada I always here about the Canadian teams more often then not and all they talk about is he would win the Hart over McDavid if they were handing it out today.

It’s a perfect match between McDavid and Leon.

Got you thinking though, could he bring back enough to turn the forward group around. I mean there's almost 97.5% chance I would never do it.

Maybe the question now would be, “would you rather have Joker or Sergachev?”

Nylander not panning out hurts, but we turned him into Joker.

Nobody was taking Svechnikov over Dahlin

Right there that is two opportunities though to have more offensive firepower.

Risto for a 2C is 8 months expired, I agree with the majority that Botts needs to make that type of move. However he got skinner, mojo, for practically nothing as well.

In fairness, that’s on coaching too.

The two best D men on this roster are Jokiharju and Montour right now.

Dahlin will obviously be the best.

The sad thing is the best D man Murray acquired in his tenure here isn’t even a full timer with the Ducks yet

But how often do players with value stick around on bad teams? Shane Doan i guess? But they didn't even suck for as long as buffalo has.

Big minute players should not survive 3 GMs
