Not disagreeing. But someone here (I forget who) said he was a lock to score 40+ a season. But the fact is that he's not a lock to score 40+ because 1) he's not guaranteed to be injury free, 2) he's getting to be on the wrong side of 35, and 3) he's already had seasons where he's scored less than 40.
- jmatchett383

Definitely not a lock to score 40+ but he's a machine and I can easily imagine him playing past age 40. It'll be interesting to watch and I'll be rooting for him to do it.

Not just Flyers. Philly sports teams are noted for using high draft picks for athletes who can't play ( though this may be a first....medical reasons)

shattenkirk...tampa. guessing he could've got more elsewhere
- Peter Richards

Not 100% sure, but the 1.75 tampa is paying he might be the max based on the fact that he was bought out by the rangers. It cost the rangers 2/3 of his salary to buy him out, so i am guessing his next contract, combined with the 2/3 getting from rangers, could not exceed the contract he got from the rangers...would be like double dipping if it were allowed....if that makes sense.

Well played sir. I expect his corpse is quite pungent, and he'd stink up the dugout! haha

But his laws of player motion would be revolutionary.

That is not correct. The buyout made him a UFA, free to negotiate whatever contract he could get.

I just hope he doesn't hang on JUST to break the record. Gretzky could have probably played another year or two dragging the team down just because he's Wayne Gretzky and potted 15 goals a year playing on the top-2 lines. But he didn't, he stepped away when he could no longer play anywhere near his accustomed level. I don't want to see Ovi playing at age 44 scoring 12 goals a year just to hang on and break the record.

Yep. This is a good point. The Flyers must have known about Patrick's situation when they signed Hayes. They had to overpay to ensure they got him. I mean would it shock you if this migraine disorder finished Patrick's career?

I can't find anything definitive about salary for a ufa that was bought out by another team, so i will agree that probably means they are free to negotiate whatever they can get.

makes sense i can't see him expecting more and I can't see the flyers give him any meaningful raise given the risk

Hak is the secret agent the Flyers needed.
Moving silently to new teams and making their offense one dimensional.

Has me laughing hysterically. The Leafs hire Hakstol and as an assistant coach, he trumps Babcock and changes the offensive system. Can't make it up.
