can't imagine we will ever see a Paul Kariya type deal again when he took WAY under market to play with Selanne. - nastyflyergirl

After his stint in NYR he wasn't getting too much. |

Pretty idiotic, He's been a stable player, great on the PK, points will come he just needs to find a line to stick with. Jake too for that matter, tough time finding him a home. - ClaudeFather
his type of contract will never live up to what people want offensively (or equate his pay too). But his contract is covered based on what he brings defensively imo. If he is able to chip in offensively and shut the opposing teams down, giving way for coots and other lines to do damage then he is worth it in the long run. if the cap is at 90 mil in three years it won't look as bad.
plus what everyone else already said...where would we be if we didn't sign him with Patty and laughts injured right now. |

still think it's low. if simmer got a one year 5 mil dollar prove it contract, I feel 1.7 mil is a little low for him. also the rangers were nothing to brag about last year. Goign to a stacked team to win...imo |

Thing is he is not being asked to shut down other top lines though, Coots line gets the big matchup and usually dominates. He really is awesome on the PK, needs to pick it up at 5v5, can we switch Jake and JVR or would the Hayes line be too incompetent? |

I did like the signing and will stand behind it weather it works out or not.Hayes reminds me of Primeau. I remember in 03/04 Primeau was awful in the regular season. When the playoffs came he basically dragged the flyers within a game of the finals.Had it not been for the injuries the flyers would have won that year i have no doubt about it.Btw I think Primeau was 32 /33 yrs old that year.I have faith that Hayes will be a factor for this team.Maybe not put up 90 pts a season but 55-60 is realistic. He has the potential to be a difference maker in the playoffs. Might not be this yr, it might be in yr 2 or 3.You cant make judgment on a 7yr contract 60 days in.Thats ridiculous. Imo. - flyeredup85
Not sure if I mentioned it before here but he reminds me a lot of Primeau with his size and how he protects the puck. |

but if he scores a lot of points he will be worth the contract and maybe they will win more. I do agree he needs to put up points and lately his faceoffs have been bad but Hayes brings a lot more than scoring, things that winning teams need. The contract might be a slight overpay, it doesn't concern me. |

Ratcliff a healthy scratch for LV today. Game on now for those interested. Disappointing start to his pro career after killing it in Juniors. |

Agreed.
They knew about Patrick when they decided to go out and get Hayes. They could have nothing behind Coots right now down the middle and the season would've ended before it even started. Apparently that's what some people wanted lol |

100% and they knew the extent of it. Maybe hayes agent also found out some info and used it to his advantage. |

For people saying Hayes should be scoring 60 points, he’s never even broken the 50 point plateau so that seems pretty unrealistic. And now he’s not currently getting any power play time. Oskars and Farabee have displaced him from the PP.
In their first 17 games his shooting percentage is at a nadir, about half of what it typically is. Plus no one on his line is really scoring either. He’s creating good scoring chances almost every game. Once his shooting percentage picks up closer to the norm the points should come. But to expect 60 points is a recipe for disappointment. |

Fletch was brought in to take action. I'm fine with the signing as it's helped us right now without hurting the prospect/young player pool at all. |

It's not all about points as you say. We don't need a team of 6 guys scoring 50+ pts if it means we are losing 7-6 every game. Down the stretch and into playoffs, that's not how teams play. If we're winning, and Hayes is doing his think on the PK, and 5 v 5 or countering a top line, I don't care if he ends up with 30 pts. The team's last game vs Boston showed me a lot. it seems that we can now compete with them in a grind it out game even a 3rd game in 4 nights. Boston to me is still the team to beat in the East, and if we consistently show we can hang with them with Hayes (not that it's all his doing) now on the squad, I think that's all you need to know.
Now get healthy Patrick so we can see what we truly have here. |

Man it totally sucks to be a FLyers fan right now..
Team is sucking and not winning.
Hayes signed to a million year contract that he doesnt deserve based on Flyersbuzz GM's.
Once again it's just like the other years with this team.. A whole hell of a lot of nothing. |

It seems more logical to me to complain about a none producing 3rd line center at 7.14 million, than complaining about a 13th forward making the league minimum, not playing and has no expectation by fans alike. |

yeah...and he's here to shut others down. JVR is signed at 7 mil per, and will probably be south of 60 points. but scoring 30 goals gets him off the hook. hayes plays a more important role. overpaid...maybe by what though????600,000? large shutdown center going into free agency, it happens.
don't care about his shooting percentage. the fact they are in the offensive zone while going against other teams 1 or 2 line is fine with me. |
