I agree people in general are forgetting. They should look at changing the format. Buying a poppy that stays with you for 10 minutes , then go out to a location usually cold and stand there for 2 minutes of silence.

You have to admit it is not a crowd draw.

Before it use to be go pay respect to your father or grandfather now it is be coming go pay respect to your great grandfather.

Now it’s post a poem on FB to demonstrate how thoughtful you are. I hate FB for what it’s turned us into

I'll admit for the first time in my life I forgot to pick up a poppy ahead of the weekend. We had to go out grocery shopping yesterday and I felt serious legitimate guilt walking around without wearing one, but then I noticed that probably 80% of the people in the store didn't have them on either. It really is fading in the public consciousness.

(frank) poppies. The ultimate way to pay tribute to rights that were fought for is to preserve those rights now & moving forward. Free speech means all speech. That includes hate speech 🤷‍♂️

People should have the right to say whatever the (frank) they want, and the people who hear it should have the right to be offended and choose not to support that person/their platform(s) any longer. IMO Cherry should not have been fired for words, he should have been fired after a provable dip in ratings/loss of sponsors stemming from those words.

Fighting over the proper way to show appreciation for the people who fought for the rights we aren’t appreciating enough to preserve is a genius social mind(frank).

Coaches corner is done ....you can’t keep it going ....they will come up with a new segment now
- Redmile247

They should have someone that can like educate people. Give them different ways to look at the game.

I saw a segment on the difference in skating styles between Matthews and McDavid. It was great.

Ummmm, no thanks on the hate speech thing. Westboro Baptists and the KKK should not be things.

And WW2 was sort of fought over hate speech that led to hate actions. I'm sure those vets didn't fight Nazis so there could be a Nazi allowance.

I accidentally “misgendered” a (I still don’t really know) the other day and was threatened with police intervention. That’s Canada in 2019.

Of course there are consequences for what you say, but we’re giving authority over that to the wrong entities.

Anyways, I’m not here to debate freedom. That’s where I stand.

I don't think he has anything to apologize for. They, Sportsnet, should've always and only allowed him to speak about hockey in today's fair-weather society, they're just as much to blame for letting an 85 year old man speak his mind for the past several years on topics unrelated to hockey. Of all the controversial things he's said, this was one of the least offensive imo.

Only in Canada do we hold a sports commentator more accountable than our own Prime Minister.

It's a pendulum that's, in response to past social issues, swung too far that will settle itself in time. However, that doesn't mean in any way there should be hate speech allowed, that's absurd.

I just want them to play angry. Like it's an insult losing four in a row.

Must win games (4point) against Nashville & Dallas. If they lose both they won’t make the playoffs.

Singling out minorities and immigrants was the problem. "You people" and "immigrants of this country" are both bad. Lots of Canadian-born people don't wear poppies, especially the younger generations, so why was he only singling out the "others"? And was he only basing this off skin colour?

"You people" might be harmless in certain contexts, and could include different groups, but in this specific case "you people" meant others, immigrants, and the likes. He contextualized his words with "you people that come here", so it wasn't everyone, it was a specific set of people.

If his statement was general about not as many people wearing the poppy – regardless of their point of origin – I think he would have a valid point.

Also, Canada doesn't have an unlimited freedom of speech to begin with – and having a freedom to say something doesn't give you a freedom from repercussions. He's an old man in a changed world.

- NewYorkNuck

See...this is the problem, you're making assumptions that validate your narrative but that in no way shape or form makes what you're saying true. He never said minorities, he never said white people, brown people, Asian people, black people, etc. you're just assuming he meant non-white people.

Last word...

I choose to wear a poppy religiously as a sign to anyone who's served our country, to let them know for one week a year that I'm appreciative of the sacrifices made by our men and women, past and present, who are willing to put it all on the line if asked to do so.

I'm a fourth generation white male Canadian, my grandfather was wounded in WWII, honourably discharged because of it and he suffered for many years until his death with what he experienced, my father served many years in the Navy, as did my mother.

Whether you choose to wear one or not is your personal decision, that's not what's at issue, it's an old man past his due date that doesn't understand the political correctness of our times.

He meant immigrants. Most Canadian immigrants are minorities/not white. You truly believe Don Cherry was talking about all the white people he saw without poppies?

And that's just it, he only saw them. How do you know if a white person is an immigrant or not? Much more probable to see a person of colour and assume, since they're not white, they were not born here, and therefore an immigrant.

Riiiiiiight. My narrative, Sportnet's narrative, Ron's narrative, most media's narrative, the majority of people's narratives... but you're entitled to your wrong opinion that wasn't a bumbling dog whistle jab on immigration/minorities

Josh Leivo on the top line?

I assume this a move to get a 2nd line scoring on 5v5 boy reuniting Miller and Bo.

Touch call to breakup one of the more dominant lines in the league though.

TG broke them up last game in the third.. if I remember correctly, he liked the jump it gave both the lines. Miller was great at the beginning of the year with Bo, so hopefully they can have two lines dominating
