The ONLY way to have respect is to buy a poppy?
Can't people just legitimately feel grateful and respect the sacrifice of others without wearing a poppy? |

Cherry is 100% right. Have some respect. Wear a (frank)ing poppy in november. You people who argue against this are disgusting to me. Not up for debate. - Finkler
Why not just buy poppies for everyone if we want everyone to wear them? Then put people in jail because they're not wearing or remembering them in the right way. Problem solved. |

This is actually hard to explain. Remembrance day has nothing to do with patriotism. It is about honouring ultimate sacrifice. It is a solemn day in every school with ceremonies marking the greatest of personal sacrifice through simple remembrance. It is more like the 9/11 remembrance in the US. Because so much of our experience is based on our school tradition, many immigrants have never really been exposed the emotional and deeper meaning of remembrance. |

Don Cherry is an 85 year old man that has been well past his prime for a long time. He's said a pile of dumb poop over the years, it finally caught up to him. |

Yeah there is other ways to respect a veteran. But on This day wear a fukin poppy!! Not a rainbow poppy( that is something for another day!!) but a regular poppy that has been around for my 52 years. And before . we as all Canadians can’t give our veterans one god dam day!!put a fukin poppy on. It also generates money for veterans. Unbelievable |

Do I agree with what Don Cherry said last weekend? Not in the slightest. He painted people with a broad brush, with no wiggle room.
Part of the problem is twofold. First, is that those poppies fall off if you look at them funny, or if a fly breaks wind near one. I've lost so many in my day it's crazy.
The second is a more recent issue, and it's really simple: Not a lot of people carry cash or change any more, and so although we see the proud women and men of the Legion, we just don't have the literal cash to donate.
Personally, I'd rather pay a larger sum (To the Legion) for a permanent poppy, one made with the metals of your choice, with a proper pin backing so it doesn't fall off, that you can order online, or with debit, whatever.
I think the symbol of the poppy is important, and should be honoured, no doubt. Just make it easier for everyone.
My 2 cents. |

I only saw clips but why would immigrants be the only ones not buying poppies? That sucks singling them out as being non-patriotic a DB move. Like only you immigrants are not buying poppies you slackers! But if that's not what he meant, then BS for firing him. |

No no no, the maple farmers ride out on moose-back in pursuit of wild maple trees to wrangle. When caught, the maple tree is coaxed into exposing it's hidden maple udder using various ancient techniques. Once the udder is exposed, they milk the maple trees much like you would a cow and then release the maple tree back into the wild where it gallops off to rejoin it's herd. - MaximumBone

Don Cherry
Yes, he is 85.
Yes, he used the wrong words.
Yes, his heart is in the right place.
Yes, he was fired.
But every Canadian regardless of where they came from or what their views are should do something simple on November 11th - wear a poopy & be proud to do so
It's 1 day out of 365- not a lot to ask?

This world has gotten soft. Cherry has a point. Not long ago it was strange to see someone not wearing a poppy. “Lest we forget” . That’s all he was saying. Calm down millennials |

It’s a sign of respect and thanks. It’s not the only way, but it reminds everyone. Plus it raises money for the vets. |
