Oh. don't get me wrong, I admire some of what he stands for, but in terms of whether I need to see him on my TV anymore... not really.

I find it interesting what Lord Humongous posted and pretty consistent with my views of the left and cancel culture.

Liberals deserve to live under the socialist totalitarian regime that they're creating over hurt feelings. It's just exhausting trying to prevent them from dragging us all with them.

They are too busy sniffing their own virtuous farts to give a damn about anyone else. A hockey commentator is held to a higher standard than our Prime Minister and that's one of the reasons why Canada is a joke on the world stage. A lot of fragile, weak Canadian men especially on these forums

It's sad, their kids and grandkids are the ones who will be paying the price for it

Oh ya because nothing screams paradise like needles and sh!t all over the streets, sky rocketing housing prices, rampant homelessness (in which they don't give a flying (frank) about) and the return of biblical times diseases like the Bubonic plague

Sounds like some real hidden gems!

HNIC is rumoured to be having Haley Wickenheiser fill the segment. Oh that's going to be real enlightening. Her analysis and charisma is at a grade 2 level, but she's female, so...cool. Skinny jeans George Strombopolopobolos is another option. Why not just have Trudeau join the panel?

so many countries have turned into a poopshow. Canada is just less of one than others. Like the US. Such a mess down there.

Don Cherry? The comments aren't really that bad. He didn't actually say what you know he's thinking. But it's just long overdue, his time is long past.

i've just been reading along on and off for the last day or so. some real ugly poop going on in here.

anyone who starts out by painting things the color they want it to be with a brush as broad as "all conservatives" or "all liberals" invalidates every word they say after that. even if you're dumb enough to really think that way try to at least sound smarter if you expect people to take your points seriously.

Same here. Makes me wonder how many are legitimate. I've seen the same generic posts (Liberal, Conservative, Socialism, PC culture, racist...etc.,) on every subject imaginable.

It's also amazing how many supposedly love their country (be it Canada, US, etc.,) yet constantly degrade, insult and flat out hate half the people living in it. I mean, this is social media, so those lions become wussy cats when face to face, but still. There's a lot of bitterness and hate out there.

I'm just a pinko commie amirite?

maybe I wasn't clear, I don't care what he says or thinks. It doesn't offend me. When I said him being ousted was long overdue, it really had nothing to do with his comments this time, or what I think we all know he was really thinking.

I think him being fired is long overdue for many reasons. First, this comment was not over the top, but he's made many others over the years that he shouldnt' be making (again, I'm not offended by them, but smart enough to know he's an idiot for saying them). Second, his mindset is out of date. His schtick is old. He is old and senile these days. the way he thinks hockey should be played, is out of touch. It makes him useless as a hockey commentator.

So, if he really offers no value in his opinion on hockey, he offers no value in terms of his opinions outside hockey, what exactly does he offer. Once upon a time he was entertaining, but his time is past. He's not even entertaining anymore. Ron Maclean is the better half of Coaches Corner.

I don't really view this as some controversial firing either. This, to me, is more like taking Ole Yeller out back of the barn and putting him out of his misery.

American society is incredibly partisan. It seems like when someone is a conservative, everything conservatives do is great, and everything a liberal does is terrible and going to ruin the country. And vice versa for a liberal. No one can really seem to look at what happens and evaluate without bias anymore.

There is some of that in Canada, but not nearly to the same extent.

This is embarrassing for me as a Canadian.
Don Cherry has had a pulpit on a publicly funded, national broadcaster for over 30 years, spewing bigotry and intolerance for anyone who isn't Canadian. Or, more correctly anyone who doesn't fit his definition of what a Canadian is.
Now we have unchecked outrage because he got what he's had coming for over a decade?
Where was all this passion 3 weeks ago when we got about 50% of the country out to the polls for a federal election????
Just because the guy likes hockey and supports our troops he can say whatever he wants? He's free to say whatever he wants, but people who fled the atrocities of war to come to Canada for a better life have no freedom to choose to wear a poppy or not? A lot of "these people" know what our troops endure more than the average Canadian.
And to boot, this stems from Cherry's OPINION of who is not wearing the poppy and why. The guy is so out of touch with society that he called Scott Sabourin's unfortunate injury "A concussion. No big deal." But, apparently he knows at a glance who is a recent immigrant and who might be a 1st or 2nd or 3rd generation Canadian and why they choose not to support the armed forces in this particular manner?

Over 100,000 Canadians died & more than 200,000 were injured defending our right to free speech, including Don Cherrys so called rights.
If you make it a contentious issue spending a dollar to support & show respect for our fallen, regardless of citizenship status, or creed, snowflakes like YOU are what's wrong with (what used to be) the free world.

I hope you clowns are young enough to be around in 40 years to reap whatever garbage you're sowing, & i hope the stench of it creeps right into your family rooms & classrooms & infringes on your rights and freedoms when the time comes. The one good thing about getting old is that you've lived enough history to recognize when it's about to repeat itself, so maybe you should shut yer pie holes and listen once in awhile. Otherwise, welcome to your own version of China you brainless sheep tw@ts.
(frank) Trudeau, (frank) the elites, (frank) the NWO, (frank) the U.N., (frank) forced diversity & (frank) PC morons that only care when it affects their little personal "safe space".
Oh, & (frank) turncoat Ron MaClean & CBC/Sportsnet for sure, & a special (frank) you to Spatso, for obvious reasons.

A right to freedom of speech does not entitle someone a right to a platform that enables their speech to reach millions.

A job on a sports station does not mean someone can spout whatever they want "cuz freedom of speech!!!".

Don Cherry has every right to say what he wants. He's welcome to stand on whatever street corner he wants to and continue to say the things he does. That's a right of his that is protected.

Show me where the government prevented his right to free speech? Or do you just not understand freedom of speech? I'll wait.
